Are you referring to the backup slot? If yes this is where you put your fob with a dead battery to start your car. This is not a place to keep your fob during car operation. Also you should have protective covers for the cup holders.

I'll have to try that fob fitting between the "wings." I usually put it in the sunglass holder, but sometimes forget it there.

On slightly related note, how good/bad are your fobs? On my Bullitt it has the advanced access or whatever (proximity with sensors on the handle) lately unlocking car from afar (especially in the heat to roll down the windows by holding unlock), the car doesn't react at all beyond like a 30ft radius, which is horrible. It also doesn't lock properly.

From quick online searches, these batteries are supposed to last 3-4 yrs. Even with it being my daily, a 2019 model bought in 2020 and keyless access, you'd think I'd make it to at least 2-3 yrs. I'm already having issues.

I know the batteries are fairly cheap, but I wonder if I need to reprogram it (don't think so, then they would either work or not at all) or have the dealer take a look...

I'm not following.

What does the "2 wings" have to do with the key-fob?

He said he uses the spot in the cup holders, where the two spring-loaded "wings" are (the ones that are there to keep smaller cans in place, but can be pushed away by larger coffee cups), to store the key fob. Instead of pocket/sunglasses holder/tray under infotainment/center console/wherever.

That still makes no sense. Like the fob is held in place by the "wings"?

Yes, I guess. He was just trying to share that somehow he found out that the key fob doesn't rattle around when driving and slides neatly in-between them, where the spring of it is strong enough to hold the fob up? I dunno man, try it out in your Mustang and see if you like it.

@OP - I assume that's what you meant (in my pic below)? :)
It actually works pretty well! Good find.

Finally some one understands what I was trying to explain, Yes it looks like it was made for the fob.
Then the question becomes what's the point ? Taken to the extreme, might as well hand the FOB off. To the first person that comes along .

FOB in a cup holder is an open invitation _ _ _ _ Do I need to fill in the blanks?
