If and when you do go to fix the chip, biggest thing I learned doing it from a couple rock chips on my A pillar, order some 1/2 or 1 CC syringes with needles. Tap the needle a couple times on a vice to blunt it and use it to add your color. Depending on size of the chip super glue sandpaper onto a pencil eraser for cleaning things up also. I used the kit from https://scratcheshappen.com/ and it was a perfect match for eruption green.

Honestly a good detail shop should be able to touch that up and blend it so you won’t even know it’s there unless you’re up close staring at it. Sucks though.

I have a good story about ding deniers. in college a buddy got rear ended in the Taco Bell drive through at 2am by some dude in a pos dodge durango. My Buddy had just traded his immaculate 60k mile jeep Cherokee XJ for this ridiculously stupid lifted SEMA style truck someone built in their driveway. We get out and the corner of his “custom” painted bumper was scratched due to the drive through angle.

Now it gets even dumber as the other dude refused to admit he rear ended my buddy and insisted my buddy backed up into him. So after several words were exchanged, my buddy gets in his truck, drives forward a bit, and then puts his trailer hitch right through the guys radiator. Then hops the curb and ditches the scene. Goes home, makes me move my car out of the garage so he can park in it, tries to take my car, I tell him F off, he grabs our other roommate’s keys and goes back to Taco Bell to get his food. He said there was a huge mess of coolant all in the drive through lane and then the dude was broken down on the side of the road right outside the t bell.

Buddy sold the truck about a month later once he realized it was idiotic to have a 8” lift and 35” boggers on a 2wd single cab v6 Silverado. Thankfully he bought a stock f150 after that and chilled out a lot. I told him he got possessed by that POS bro truck.

Thank you all for sharing your advice on what paint and how to fix the chip. Whenever I get to tackle the project, I will post an updated picture. If I had hindsight I probably would’ve done things differently.(knowing now that they did not care at all)

I understand fully you being pizzed off big time, believe me I do. I’ve actually traded cars over a door nick, silly as that may sound. I hate ‘em. I’ve learned though that it’s incumbent on me to either find a safer space or just keep moving around until one becomes available. People just don’t care.

Honestly, depending on my own level of preparedness and expectations I’m not sure I’d have even confronted them. In this day and time it could have ended a lot worse.

I had my brand new S550 less than a week before someone opened a door onto the left rear wheel arch. Thankfully, my PDR guy fixed it, but that's not the point. At the end of the day, most people simply do not care about this sort of thing.

I live in a small country town, a shiny red sport car like a Mustang is seen as a needlessly showy extravagance................even if the owner worked their face off to buy it. So yeah, an element of jealousy comes into it................................to that I say, just work harder and stop buying booze and smokes, then maybe you too could afford nice things too.

That sucks. Good news is that color is easy to repair. Any solid colors without pearl or multiple bases repairs nice. As said a good detail shop should make that go away without problem. Good luck.

Generally does not happen in Europe.
We’ve got so many uncivilized and ignorant people in this country it’s unbelievable. Very little respect for others, or even for themselves.

Yup people are careless and straight up don't care. Get a dash cam with parking mode and get it installed. You'll save yourself some headache in the future as at least you will not even need to interact with idiots and can go straight to police/insurance with the footage.

Same thing happened to me recently, and once to my wife. Dual dash cam helped both times. Both in private parking lots, both times police were called and supported my side, even though they have no obligation on private property. But they will make sure insurance info gets exchanged.

In the wife's case, the driver backed into her bumper and then left. We called the cops, showed him the footage, and he said it was basically a "hit and run". He tracked down the guy, and he paid the $500 deductible for bumper repaint.

When this happens, it's good to try to calm yourself as quickly as possible, and then immediately start taking photos. For example a photo of the back end of their car gets you the license plate and possible a rental car badge.

I m very careful where I park and chips and things still happen when driving. I try to remember what Carol Shelby said because it makes for a happier experience...

  • "These cars are meant to be driven, so enjoy the hell out of all of it - not just look at it when it's clean." Shelby's creations aren't meant to sit in a garage and be admired. Their full power is intended to be embraced and enjoyed on the road.
