Has anyone with a JLT intake done mods to seal the airbox to the hood or done anything else to reduce IATs?

It is an 85* degree day and idling for awhile and with the A/C on, my IAT hit 156*.

Honest answers only please. I'm not going back to the stock airbox or switching to another CAI. I just want to ask if it is possible to drastically reduce the IAT with the JLT or if it is just what it is.

Who cares what it gets while idling? Do you notice it goes right back down as soon as you start moving? Pretty much any aftermarket intake will do this, its completely normal.

A much taller bulb seal or a lexan cover would be best. The VelossaTech Big Mouth also does quite a bit here, particularly if you have a good seal to the hood.

You are going to have to learn to live with it. I know open intakes will make a little more peak power over stock box in cooler air. But honestly, in summer 80 degree plus air temps in stop and go traffic (or waiting in line staging) the 150 degree plus iats suck. I had jlt on my 14. Never again.

Honest answer? Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy the car. It's not going to affect you in any way once the car is moving.

I'm planning to try and make my own cover with some of the ideas in this thread, also very much considering getting another Velossa Tech Big Mouth. We see +40c quite a bit in summer, the guys with PMAS and JLT intakes suffer

Yeah. I guess the questions are: where is most of the heat coming from? It would probably be easier to make a taller seal

I tend to agree. I’m not really worried about performance at all once I am moving. And with my Lund FF tune the car moves. Sometimes I do like to sit in my car for a few minutes and I’m idling because I need the A/C on cuz it’s frickin hot and humid this summer. I just feel uneasy about my engine breathing in all this hot air. Is this bad for the engine in any way to have IATs in the 150s?

As I had mentioned before, I never ran the GT350 CAI without the Big mouth, but I know the results together. The highest I've seen for IATs in stop-go traffic in hot weather is 120 give or take a degree or two. I'd have to give some credit to both.

Did you find that setup to be better than your stock box with the big mouth? I was thinking of adding the Bullitt intake on my car with the big mouth

Peak IATs are higher than the stock box, but only ~10-12 degress more, and it sheds the temp faster while flowing better at high rpm (over 6k). Overall better, yes.
