Is the parts guy at my local Ford dealer an idiot?

"The amount and quality of the filter material is anyone's guess without dissection."

Bingo!

Anti drain back valve appears to be different, too.

A filter is not a filter. There can be significant differences.

I have never sold that part number - but this is straight out of the Ford parts catalog…..but I would say that according to the parts catalog they are interchangeable.

the other number might be an Omicraft thing, or the catalog may be incorrect.

Maybe…the number changed….I just know that the push rod 5.0 has used FL1A filter since at least 1982…
The FL1A dates much farter back than that. Uses on my '69 Cobra Jet coupe, my 6 cyl. sportsroof and even though it will fit an 82 5.0 (H.O.) it is not what came on those cars. They used the FL1-HP. Only one local dealership stocked them and I used a bunch of them in over 120k miles on that car.

So.... as this new filter is labeled as "performance" I am wondering if this is a "generic" version of the Ford Racing(now Ford Performance) filter as that was mostly just the FL500 with a little more capacity and different media.

So this filter can only be gotten at the dealer? Or has anyone got one say at walmart for example?
OP, how much was it compared to the old one?

Mine was the first new car I purchased. It was a T-Top car, PW, PL, louvers, non-TRX with leather. I later added Recaros since mine got bumped from production with the LAPD hogging them. I went an amazing 15.77 in the 1/4 with. Not bad for a 157 2V 302. I've still got a copy of the window sticker somewhere, but I seem to recall it clocking in at $11.5k!
As to the performance oil filter, I am also one of those 'parts' guys, and they are real. I did a general search and they seem to be more available from Motorcraft distributors than Ford parts distributors. So they are there to be gotten, and the pricing isn't bad either.

Go there to pick up an oil filter for my 2016 GT and I expect him to give me the FL500S filter that I’ve always used but instead he comes out with an FL-2121-B12.

I tell him that’s the wrong filter but he informs me that Ford changed suppliers and that this is the new filter. Is he right?

When I got home I searched online on American Muscle, Levittown Ford parts, etc etc and they all still show the FL500S as the recommended filter. Nowhere did I see this other FL-2121-B12. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I always ran the FL1A on my Mopars.

Would love to see a FL1A filter with coyote threads.

$7 or $8 bucks if I remember correctly. I’ll have to find the receipt if you’d like an exact price

lol, sorry. Complete answer: The old style filter was just about the same price. Like I said though, I’d have to find both sets of receipts to verify.
