I notice the drivetrain is a bit whiny on my 17' GT Premium at low speeds, espcially on newly paived roads. Is this normal for the automatics? My tires are chinese crap and I am sure contribute some (replacing them soon). Any info is appreciated. Car is bone stock, no mods.

Not normal at all. It I'd bet it's those cheapo Chinese tires your hearing. Is it relative to speed or rpm? Or both?

My auto and any others I've been in (6 speed) have been silent.

Speed. I can shift it into neutral and its still there while coasting to a stop. Not rpm related, its all relative to speed. I am in the hunt for tires now, watching for the spring tire sales coming soon.

When I had my prior 2016 w/6R80, there was absolutely no trans “whine” in any gears at any speed or RPM.

Are you sure it’s not the rear differential or wheel bearings?

It could be the driveshaft center support bearing too.

There is a huge driveline vibe thread in the Issues/TSB sub-forum on here and 2015-2016 owners have had issues with the rear diff, some getting complete replacements due to premature pinion bearing failures or metal contamination. Also failures were noted with the center bearing support assembly.

Take it to your mechanic or the dealer if you still have any warranty left and get them to diagnose it. The guess this sound over the internet game without ever hearing it, is sure to lead you down the wrong path most of the time.

Thanks for all the responses. I will install a new set of tires soon and if it still makes noise I will swing by the dealer to have them look at it. Still have b2b warranty until august and my powertrain is good for a few more years.

Oh and yes I inspected the bearings, no issues. I did have some minor play on drivers side rear, but I since tightened to spec. No driveline vibe at all, she is smooth on the hwy.. It has to be the tires... Thanks again all.
