Sync 2 is Microsoft based - Sync 3 is based on a blackberry OS with support for Android - can't see Ford stopping upgrades for Sync 2There are still some details I'm waiting to find out about the Sync 3 system, but as an Android user my opinion is that having Android Auto and Sync 3 is definitely worth waiting for.
Like with so many early Smart TVs whose netflix apps have long since stopped working, the Sync2 is a proprietary Ford platform rather than an open standard platform. In a few years if ford can't be bothered to support the latest Spotify API changes, then the Spotify functionality breaks. If I'm using Spotify through carplay via my phone.... well, there's a better chance that spotify themselves will keep updating and supporting their app for a big platform like android than some comparative niche platform like Sync 2.
Same for everything else on it. Android Auto gives me the possibility that long after ford have gotten bored with updating their old gizmos I can still get up to date navigation, media and other apps. Meaning the car I buy, I can be happier with for much longer.
