Intake vs Stock air box

Please! Primary reason is the promise of power. If it sounds good, added bonus.

Any significant power increase that can be measured is from the tune, not the filter and or air box.

I had intake on for several thousand miles before I got a tune. You can read my review right here:

I could immediately tell a difference after the installation of the CAI. And yes I also got it for the sound which I love

Side note: don't try to tell me my own reasoning. If you don't want one that's fine. Don't try to tell everyone else that it's pointless and provides no gains unless u have solid proof

JLT has posted some interesting things/graphs about their intake, and, more importantly, many 3rd-parties have dyno'd that intake as well, even without a tune. Those dyno plots are lurking here on the forums somewhere.

JLT has posted some interesting things/graphs about their intake, and, more importantly, many 3rd-parties have dyno'd that intake as well, even without a tune. Those dyno plots are lurking here on the forums somewhere.

Stock intake with stock filter vs the JLT. Im saying Stock box with a drop in vs a JLT or any other intake will be a close race. Power isn't in the filter its in the piping size. At the end of the day that is limited to what? The compressor inlet. The biggest downside to all these intakes are the lengths.

What's even funnier is that you already had the same car as me! I know you from fiestastforum.com ;-) I like the car a lot. We bought it as a performance car, so we only added things to make it drive better. It weighs 3433lbs as shipped, which is MUCH lighter than most you'll see around here! It's only autox'd once so far, but I did better than I normally do in our FiST, which is prepared with Konis and the "right" tires, hehe. Car is a blast! It also jumps curbing at roadcourses quite comfortably! The radio is fine...The interior looks nice at night, but in the daylight the smaller screen surrounded by black buttons looks kinda cheesy. The radio definitely doesn't take away form the experience of the car, even on a 1600 mile roadtrip I just returned from.

Try to relax...its just an intake and just a forum. I never said it was pointless, you shouldn't spin out of context. Point being is that majority of the gains are from the tune. Even the manufactures admit that. Of course it sounds better when you can hear the intake without the air box muting.

You really should try be honest with yourself and the rest of the members...everyones primary reason for engine performance mods is the hope and promise of HP gains, with looks, sound or weight reduction following up.

Seriously...who would buy an intake just because it sounded better? If just changing the intake and or filter made any significate amount of air fuel ratio, you'd need a tune to take advantage of it.

Thats why CAI's that do make a significant difference have a tune that goes with them.

Hello fellow Fist owner. LOL wow that's kinda scary lol. What mods have you got on yours now ? Yea I thought about the premium since it has the screen but the extra weight wasn't high on my list.

Absolutely. When I had my 2012 5.0 the factory intake was more then enough and all the power was through the tune. Most companies were selling the tune and intake because obviously it makes them money. :headbonk:

Actually most companies were selling the intake and tune because it upped the size of the MAF section of the tube. You HAVE to retune for that. eco doesn't need that.

Be careful what drop in filter you use, just remember that if it flows more air, its also gotta let in more dirt. JLT sells an intake that has a dry filter like stock, and it still makes more power.

My car was one of the before/after intake only dynos by JLT. Average across quite a few runs was ~10hp gain, and its lighter than stock.

If you want to keep it stock, look up how to dremel the grill to get more airflow.

See this is what I'm talking about. I got it because I wanted it and I wanted the sound that came with it. If all I cared about was gains I would have gotten a down pipe. There are A LOT of ppl on here who got intakes for sound alone. That being said there are gains without being tuned
