Thanks to the folks at Midwaymustangparts and the unlucky previous owner of a CR CF wheel, I’ve had some craft time with a damaged 19” GT350R carbon fiber stock wheel.

For those who haven’t seen the innards of the Carbon Revolution 19” wheel...notable items of this design include the center hub and lug nut “mushroom” interface used to attach to our hub, the foam sections inside the spokes/inner hub and the thin metal sheath between the barrel/inner spokes and ceramic coating. I had no idea.

really cool. Are you sure that's from a 19. Carbon Revolution made 2 versions of the CF wheel. The reason I know that is because I have two sets of CF wheels and I was concerned the used ones didn't look like my 2019 CF wheels. The ones in your pics are the earlier version. Mike at Carbon Revolution customer support said they changed the design because owners/shops were torquing the lugs too tight and causing some damage.

Here's both sets of wheels, the flat lug surface is my stock 2019 wheel, the one like you show if the earlier model. Now it doesn't mean they still didn't use that style on 2019's, it's just not the most recent style.

The back of the hub is different too.

Which set of pictures is the newer style? Is it the first set, or the second set?

I see on the first set that the front of the lug holes have a wider (thicker) painted lip than the second set. Also there appears to be more material against the hub on the 2nd set of pictures.

The first two are identical to what my 2019 R has. The bottom 2 are 2016 wheels I believe.

Hey Eric, good to see you here. The OP said they are 19’s and I know they have the same look as the used ones I bought. Just trying to figure out when they changed. I hope all is well buddy.

Hey Jim, I’ve been lurking around. Hope you are yours are well and safe.
Good catch on the difference. I don’t know either when the hub changed, curious to know as well.

It’s a CR 19” wheel from an R model. Not sure it’s from a 2019 R. It matches the wheels on both of my ‘16 Rs.

it makes sense that CR would update the lug nut surface if folks were over-tightening. I torque mine to 100 lb-ft.

Other manufacturers’ hub surfaces may be the reason CR changed the mating surface. Uniformity.

Ahhhh.... my bad. I initially thought you were saying a 2019 wheel, but I now see you said 19” wheel. My apologies. By the way the torque is 150ft lbs +/- 15

Hahaha....that’s an odd number. These guys screaming 150 is too high and stopping at 100, I get. Don’t agree with it and it’s unfounded, but it makes sense because everyone’s always been taught that. But how did you come to the conclusion to stop at 145? You’re sooooo close. Just seems like an odd number to stop at.

Because the manual says 150 + or - 15, so 145 seemed good. Do you see my science LOL. I also saw a post where someone said 130-150 is the range to use so I figured if the owners supplement says 150 then I'm better off going under a little that over.
