Last year I fitted a H-pipe to my GT, had the well-known issue with the AE wiring chafing on the chassis, fixed it with some heat-shrink and all was well until December when I started getting occasional ‘exhaust mode unavailable’ messages

I bought a Milltek cat-back w/X-pipe, fitted in December, also changed the damaged wiring harness

Since fitting the cat-back, I’ve been unable to get track mode, whenever I try, can hear the valves open but goes straight back to normal with ‘exhaust mode unavailable’ and occasional EML fault codes P26FE and P2BFB, ECU is unable to determine if the valve open or closed. only ever happens with track mode, quiet, normal & sport all work

All I can find Mustang specific is the
X-pipe not being fitted properly, but I’ve checked and double checked the pipes and wiring, valves move freely when actuators are taken off but actuators don’t do anything when loose

Seems like one if not both actuators are faulty but at £400 a side I don’t want to gamble but I don’t know what else to try

Likely to be this. The harness may look okay but for both actuators to go at the same time it's highly unlikely.

Have you checked your fuse? Check the wiring also. It's highly likely the harnesses have rubbed and the wiring is damaged somewhere along the line.

Replace fuse, see which side doesn't work and then have a closer inspection of the harness.

Yeah checked the fuses, all OK, the damaged drivers side harness was replaced with brand new when fitting the Milltek, passenger side was fine, both sit well away from rubbing on the chassis

This might be worth a try :

lost count of how many times I’ve done this but not working

will go quiet, normal & sport fine but not race 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kind of an update

got an EML again today only the one code, P26FE

Since the rain was off I pulled the wiring harness off the drivers side exhaust and inspected thoroughly, removed all the covering tape and whatnot

The only damage I could see was was a small cut only just exposing copper, which to be fair could have been me with Stanley I used to carefully remove the covering tape

I’ll get some heat shrink on it and see what happens

Bit of a plot twist…

spoke to Milltek who suggested a couple of things to try but didn’t pan out

Stripped the sheathing off the passenger side harness to check for damage - none

Took the actuators off again, found a bit of corrosion in what was originally the passenger but now drivers side

plugged into FORScan on the off chance, looks like I need valve actuator x 2 so I’ll probably live with it for the time being until a cheap second hand pair come up

Been a while but…

Managed to get my hands on a pair of second hand actuators, fitted this afternoon

Disconnected the battery prior so they would hopefully recalibrate on start up

Started up less than a minute “exhaust mode bla bla” so thought about putting factory system back on but that remembered why I took it off in the first place, ruined it fitting the H-pipe last year

On the other hand I fitted a steeda shifter bush while the car was in bits, gearbox feels almost brand new which is nice

I saw this posted not long ago, have you tried this ?

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/active-exhaust-sounds-like-crap.121345/page-5#post-2920036

edit: my bad yes you have as per picture above. Can you actually see the valves in the exhaust, ie if someone else was standing behind the car looking up your exhaust (oo-er) can they see the valves move position? My Xforce exhaust you can see the plates move as you operate the soleniod
?
Yeah the valves move as they should in quiet, normal and sport, wide open in race then straight back to normal, no sticking or jamming if I take the motors out

Can hear them inside the car

Can sometimes hear them opening/closing repeatedly as if trying to work out where they should be
