It went to other things. We need to look to US Law for immigration. It's the law today. We are able to change the law, but it takes a a new Act passed by Congress.

Immigration is broken, so the question is how harshly do we punish undocumented people. Crossing the border without a document is only a class B misdemeanor so that's similar to filing a false police report or driving without a license.

Moreover, what exactly do you want to do about it? The net flow of illegal immigrants across the border has been negative for more than a decade. Numbers are doing down, enforcement wouldn't be free and getting every single illegal immigrant person out would be a massive project costing hundreds of billions and requiring unprecedented levels of authority.

Liberals are far harsher on punishments for the businesses employing illegal immigrants, liberals were also far better at deporting them.

They would have the same rights, protections, and access to services that a legal non-citizen has today. Likewise, they would pay taxes the way a legal non-citizen currently does. Non-citizens are currently required to register for selective service; this would continue. If they are drafted and serve, they would obviously receive credit for citizenship just as someone who serves of their own volition--maybe fewer credits if they didn't volunteer (?).

So, the only thing that changes is that the rights and entitlements that come with full citizenship would have to be earned by each individual rather than inherited. Those born of American parents would have an automatic right to seek citizenship, as would those who enter the country legally as immigrants.

Thus, those most likely to argue against it are those who do not want to earn citizenship by contributing to the nation (or community), but instead argue that citizenship is their God-given right based on what an ancestor did (or didn't do). In other words, the "entitled".

So essentially, they would be like a greencard holder?

I'm not going to waste my time going back through dozens of pages over 3 threads to highlight the indirect or direct racism, stay on topic.

I am good with immigration if it is legal by the Laws passed by Congress. They get their citizenship and pay taxes like the rest of us.

I pay my employer Social Security portion of taxes on my household staff and withhold their portion. The Law also requires that I pay Federal and State Unemployment taxes based on complicated government Forms.

I spent two hours filling out a GA form. I got an error message. No one said that they required Explorer over Chrome. It took me another two hours to pay taxes.

We need to drain the Swamp of incompetent federal employees.

No? I'm asking what we do to change it and I gave one example of something we can change to help stop illegal immigration.

No, we should change DUIs as well, I would rate DUIs far more grave than what they currently are.

I agree, legal immigration is fine so long as we clean up the process, i.e. fix loopholes such as the genius visa.

Why don't you quote the entirety of my post and discuss what we can do better. Why does this always have to be a blame game. You'll never 'drain the swamp' it just isn't possible there will always be lazy or corrupt persons everywhere in our society the best you can do is build laws and regulations to punish those who can't adhere to their job/responsibilities.
