Hey everyone,

I'm a complete noob when it comes to mechanical work. All I know is I like to go fast and I finally was able to buy a fast car. And guess what. I want to make it faster. I'm looking at a BBK 3 in Downpipe(catted),a CAI intake by Airaid(oiled), a magnaflow street series exhaust(Cat-back), an S&R performance intercooler, and a Bama X4 tune. Now I don't even have 2k miles on the car(2016 ecoboost) and I'm paranoid the parts I'm getting will blow up my turbo or ultimately kill the car. So here I am searching for the aid of more experienced mustang owners. Are the parts okay? Should I be worried about anything? Should I get a bigger turbo for these parts? Will this shit blow up my engine? My dealership doesn't have a problem with aftermarket parts as long as they don't cause any problems. Also the parts are all direct fit and bolt ons. Oh and how much HP should I gain from these mods(to the crank and RW)? Sorry for all the questions I'm a paranoid noob.

Thanks

Congrats on the purchase! The EB is definitely a fun car to modify and big gains can be had with just a few mods. With the parts you have listed, you shouldn't need to worry about your engine blowing up or turbo failing. I don't know if there have even been any reported engine failures for the 2016 model year on the forums.

That being said, if I were in your shoes I would swap out a couple items on your list. I'm sure the SR Performance intercooler does fine and is probably much better than stock, but I'd go with something a little bigger like a Full Race or Levels FMIC, especially if you're in a warmer state like Florida. As for tuning, I don't have any personal experience with Bama, but I've heard of some people on these forums having issues with their tunes on the EB. If you want to stick with the SCT X4 then I'd go with Unleashed for tuning. Or if you're willing to spend a little more I'd go with the Cobb Accessport. The on-the-fly map switching alone makes it worth the extra money IMO. If you get the Accessport then I highly recommend going with custom tuning from Adam at Tune+. The cold air intake won't really give you much as far as performance gains, but they look and sound nice.

It's difficult to say what your numbers would be for HP and TQ because there are so many variables. I would take a guess that you could pretty easily get 300-315 WHP and anywhere from 360-390 TQ on 93 octane.

Good luck with whatever you decide and have fun!

Get a bigger intercooler, you will still get crazy heat soak with that small of a unit in Florida. Ask me how I know. Your choice of tuner is up to you, but my advice, get a good pro tune instead of cheaping out on Bama. Everything else looks good. Magnaflow street is probably my favorite sounding cat back.

Exhaust is a matter of choice, so which ever one sounds best to you is fine.

I would lose the CAI. No real advantage.

If you are looking for a stock IC, meaning no cutting, go with CP-e.

Tuning wise I think there are better options out there.

Is this the accessport you were talking about? Also, who's Adam from Tune+ and roughly how much would it cost for a custom tune? Oh and could you give me a link to the intercoolers you were talking about? American Muscle seems to only have the smaller intercoolers for the Ecoboost.

Also as a general reply to everyone. Thanks for the input I've already changed up the build a little bit. I'll be going with the Accessport tuner over Bama X4. Just looking at some intercoolers now. If you guys have any links to other intercoolers since American Muscle seems to only have the smaller intercoolers for the EB. Also, just a follow up on the replies about the intercooler I have in the list. Why would I be at a disadvantage to use the S&R intercooler? Is it the size?

Yes that's the Accessport. The Tune+ site is adamtuned.com

You can get a single custom tune from him or you can get lifetime tuning, which means you get unlimited tune revisions as you add more mods to the car. Pricing is all on the site. You can email Adam at [email protected] if you have any questions about it. He's a busy guy but is always willing to answer your questions.

Here are the links for the intercoolers I mentioned:

http://levelsperformance.com/collec...g-ecoboost-direct-bolt-on-intercooler-upgrade

http://www.full-race.com/store/ecob...reakoboost-intercooler-cac-upgrade-kit-1.html

The Levels is a great deal for what you get, the only thing is that it usually takes a while to receive it once you order it (at least it did when I got mine). If you like the Full Race I would shoot an email to Adam about it. He can get you the intercooler without the charge pipes for a cheaper price.

I really do like the look of the intercooler by levels, it's obviously a big upgrade over the S&R intercooler. Just to get some information as to why. Why is the S&R intercooler not that great of an upgrade?

The SR is probably a decent upgrade over stock, but it's still relatively small. Our cars generate a ton of heat, and a smaller intercooler is going to heat soak more quickly, which means higher charge air temps. When the charge air temps get to a certain point, the ECU will start to pull timing to protect the engine, which means less power. So a larger IC essentially means more consistent power.

AH okay that makes a lot of sense now! Thank you. I'll definitely look into getting the levels intercooler then! How long did it take for you to get yours?

It took a little over a month to get mine, but it may be different now. Levels is pretty much a one man business and everything is welded by hand. If you want a better idea of the ETA check out the contact info on the site.

Cool will do! One last question. I'm looking at the BBK Off-Road Down Pipe as well. How will that affect the car as a daily driver?

With the off-road downpipe you'll probably be a bit louder and also smelly, but there will be less restriction which could potentially mean more power.
