Well, I still dont understand how this works but people ordered Rs (i.e. in the system they could see an order, a print out was given, etc), but the cars never got built. Again, I dont know how this works, so can't comment on more besides saying be careful.
It was a huge problem in MY '16. Dealers were taking deposits for R's that they didn't have allocations for.

It is my understanding that anybody can order an R, but if there is no allocation from ford or the reps, it will never get built. That is one of the reasons I advised Garrett to get confirmation from the ford rep that this is a true allocation. He told me he got it, so it must be legit.

The last couple of days were hard for me (to keep my mouth shut). I had been communicating and working with Garrett during this exciting time. I sent him a lead on a 16 R but the dealer didn't want to play ball. To Garrett's credit, he found an R all by himself for 5K over. Absolutely baffling to me so late in the game.

When I found out about his find, it was in his other thread here http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64767&page=2
I had only one thing to say...

Dude!

:hail:

Right now I'm having a nice glass of '05 Mount Veeder Cab celebrating your victory.

Nicely played Garrett, nicely played

Please do explain "people ordered R's but the cars never got built."

They received a R last year that the owner sold to a friend. This dealer does a ton of fleet sales as well as new/used vehicles. The sales manager and salesman are getting in contact with the area rep to insure this is the real deal.

He is correct. Ford dealers can take deposits and place an order in the system for an R. If the dealer was not given an allocation the car will never get built. Many Ford dealers do not know how the system works for R orders.

One method of a dealer getting an R allocation is to sell 3 GT350's.

Do you have to sell 3 in the same MY? Or just 3 in the run of GT350's?

I really hope you do OP. I'll celebrate with you when you have solid confirmation of having one. Not trying to be a downer, but I've heard too many stories like this that don't pan out for various reasons.

Good luck though and I hope it is true as that is a hell of a deal!

I've read it's 3 in one model year. I have no inside knowledge other than what I have read so take it with a grain of salt.

Hopefully you can confirm that this is in fact a confirmed R allocation!

Back in 2011 I had deposits on 3 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca allocations including one in El Dorado, Arkansas and not one of these dealerships had an allocation even though they promised me that they had a real LS allocation. It took me a long time to get all of my deposits back!

Certainly not here to dismiss your 2017 R model allocation but suggest that you do your due dilegence and confirm that in fact that you have a 2017 R model on order and receive a VOC confirming your priority build code along with a confirmed VIN.

Good luck and I look forward to your VOC and a confirmed VIN!

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Im sure if they had one last year and sell a lot that your sitting pretty. It's those small dealerships that i wouldn't trust. Congrats, im sure it will be coming next spring, so you have a long time to get your car situation figured out.

I sure hope most of you that are saying it may not be true are wrong hahaha! I know there is that risk that the allocation may not be there and I have read the horror stories. I should know by Monday, hopefully, whether or not the allocation actually exists. The dealership is quite large, about 300 sales a month not including their fleet sales which is massive. Please refresh my memory on what the VOC is.

Vehicle Order Confirmation. Number of sales per month does not matter. It's how many GT350's they have already sold. After the VOC you should get a DORA which is Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement. Neither of these guarantee the car will be built. It all comes down to whether the dealer has an allocation. Shocking as this may sound, many dealers will have no idea.
