Maybe the the new powers that be will drop the EV mandates.
I have a sneaky feeling EV mandates will be low on the next administration’s agenda. Especially if Elon is serving in some capacity…

A simple description of an EV is that they have no Soul…!!!

They are simply an Appliance, not a vehicle.
Exactly. I already have a vacuum cleaner, I don’t need one that I can drive 🤭

I think Elon would like to sell his EV's at large profits, like before the green adjenda

No doubt he wants more profit out of Tesla but the amount of competition out there now (and maybe in the future) will further drive prices down. Not to mention those that want them want them to be affordable. All the folks that gripe about a $60K Mustang better be griping about a $60K toaster too (again, if they want them). The government contracts he has through SpaceX are far more lucrative for him anyway (conflict of interest if he lands a role in the new admin??)

A buddy of mine picked up an Audi RS E-Tron and let me drive it yesterday. The acceleration was off the charts, so now I can see all the fuss about EVs, but the lack of any sound was very strange and made me feel disconnected from the car. Hard to describe but the car was unbelievably fast!

I grabbed a couple of pics of my good old fashioned ICE car next to the EV. I'll stick with my Bully but the EV was very luxurious.

I drove my Project Managers car, same one. It was fast, but it was also soulless and while off the line it might have the jump, from a roll a Mustang would own it.

Also still don't get the appeal, they're prone to spontaneously combust even if they're just sitting there

If the new admin drops the EV mandates lots of manufacturers will drop EV's. They are big money losers for most companies. Constitutionally under the commerce clause the feds can stop the State mandates like from Ca.

Should be an interesting next few years.

Will be interesting to watch for sure. I’m all for the mandate being dropped, let it grow if the market really demands them. I don’t think manufacturers would totally stop producing them, they’ve invested billions in these facilities. But I do think you’d see a much more targeted approach to them for sure. Probably would see more of a hybrid approach from some as well (gas/electric V8? Please and thank you).

Hello; As already noted by many there are two main avenues of discussion regarding EV's. One being the area of force which includes mandates, tax payer funded rebates/incentives and the war on fossil fuels.
Another is the physical & performance operation of the EV's themselves. Some are overly focused on stoplight acceleration. I do get that aspect. Some ICE drivers build tubbed street/strip drag cars with skinny front tires. Probably over 99% of us want a car/truck to use the way we can already use an ICE where acceleration is not the main or only criteria.

let me throw in another avenue for consideration. A main excuse for the Green & EV push is to save the planet. My take is EV's fall way short of being green salvation for the planet.

Hello; I hope the mandates are legislated out of existence. Not clear how the ones in existence came into being. If passed as a bill then state legislatures may have to remove them. Not clear to me if a Federal law can override the mandates. Even if such could happen not clear if there is the needed numbers yet to get the votes in the house or senate.
Take away the taxpayer funded incentives and the real potential of EV's will emerge.

I hope CAFE is repealed and the EPA is abolished
Will partially disagree with you here. The EPA and other agencies should exist as we should have regulations around pollution and other things. However, these regulations should be passed by Congress with these agencies being the groups charged with enforcing whatever Congress passes. That’s the way it should work IMO

Look to marijuana for your answer re: federal vs state. It is still illegal at the federal level but many states have legalized it. Now, there are some issues that are caused by it being illegal at the federal level (have to deal in cash as banks can’t be a part of something that is illegal at the federal level since they are federally insured). I’m not a constitutional lawyer (or any lawyer for that matter) so I don’t know exactly how it all goes down with regards to an EV mandate. I suppose a state like CA could keep it in place, although I suspect there would be enormous pressure from consumers and manufacturers to drop it if they’re the only outlier.

Like Dan said, the next few years should be interesting

Hello; EV's are a hard sell without mandates & incentives. I do not know for sure if there will be enough raw demand to make EV's viable. The companies were under the gun in terms of being forced into this position. If yesterdays event is the start of a reversal of that element of pressure on the companies they will drop EV's like hot rocks if EV' s do not sell.
My concern is whether a financially unviable state of affairs already exists. Economies may find themselves like willey coyote in the cartoons- too far out over the cliff. We may have a chance for recovery after yesterday, but the true believers are not yet finished. Some damage already done.

Naw, think it's time we start things over and keep things bare bones. I'm ready for us to have the cars we want rather than Uncle here:

Putting his thumb on the scale saying "All manufacturers need a fleet avg of xx mpg's" or "No diesels without all these emission equipment" or anything like that. There's a reason you can't buy a V8 sedan without spending big bucks, and MOPAR basically shot themselves in the head chasing the electric dragon.

Again, let Congress vote, but for now, lets get rid of the agencies and trim a lot of fat from the govt

The commerce clause is to prevent States from restricting trade from other States. So yes the Feds can override Ca's mandate

Biggest reason you can’t buy a V8 sedan today is because nobody buys sedans anymore. Everyone wants a stupid SUV or a big ass luxury truck (remember when trucks were needed for function and not as a status symbol?, I miss those days). We (the large, general we) have been trained to think we need these giant land yachts and the manufacturers make a tidy profit from them. Yes, the CAFE has a lot to do with it too. I’m not saying that CAFE is the answer (it’s not) but having some oversight over dumping toxic chemicals into the water system and what is discharged into the air among other things is a good and needed.

Just my opinion, we all see things a little differently and that’s ok. People seem to forget that these days (not directed at you in particular just a general statement).
