I really want to get into the HP tuner, but don't want to program the engine tune myself. I really want it for the trans tuning and other features. I have a LUND tune currently and it runs ok. I'd hate to have to start from scratch with an engine tune just to get back to where i'm at currently. How does the system work? Does it offer tunes? Or are tunes locked by vendor? Looking for feedback if you own one or know whats up.

Can you explain a bit more? It kinda sounds like you have a car that already has a tune (Lune), but you are unaware of how that process works

Do you already have the software and device? You can try reading the entire PCM and then save a separate copy of that to play around with.

Secondly, the HP Tuners repository has a great deal of tunes from other users that you can base yours off of. I may also have a copy of the FP tune that's on my car now if you're interested.

I haven't bought anything HP Tuner related yet. I started with a Ford Performance Tuner, wanted better shifting and was sold on LUND after they told me it was a completely different shift strategy (which it isn't). Now I would like to do it myself and tune out the weird 10r80 shift issues. Its good to know that there are some tunes out there to download. That should get me close. I'd like to do more emphasis on the trans tuning hopefully.
Could you tell me what I need to buy? I'm guessing the cable from laptop to car, and then the software? What version do I need etc?
Thanks!!!

They just sell the hardware, which at this point I believe is MPVI 4. The software is free (vcm scanner and vcm editor). Other than that you'd have to buy more credits if you need them, but I think the purchase of the unit itself does come with some credits.

I would honestly start with the FP tune if you can flash it back to that. It's a very solid tune, especially in the 10R80 department. It's got some performance improvements but most of all it's got OEM driveability and OEM safety (which some tuners like to mess with).

Definitely not, if the PCM is locked down by the Lund tune. However, he should have the stock file to tinker with

All I really want is the 1,2,3 shift that Lund offered. I can't stand the 2nd gear skip from FRP. Can I tune that back in with HPT?

Reach out to Wengerd . Derel is very good with the 10R80. He can tune with the HPtuner and PCMTech, and I believe SCT as well.

If it were me, I'd return it to the FRP tune. Then use PCMTec to read it and you can start making changes at will. Skip-shift is very easy to get rid of. If you want to discuss what does what, post your questions up here and we can discuss.

Is it a locked tune or can I make changes to Wengerd tunes?
