How quickly are you going through tires?

It seems like the summer tires dont last long at all. The all seasons on my S197 lasted a decent amount of time, and from what I can tell they're holding up the S550 too. But now I'm curious to take a closer look at them later today when i'm home.

I had NT555s on my S197, they were summer tires and had great life in them

The Pirelli's that came with my S197 lasted 60k. I only DD, never tracked or anything. I replaced those with my current A/S Pilot Sports and about to hit 90k.

My main worry with the Performance Pack is replacing the tires too often. It would actually help to have the staggered wear since replacing 2 at a time is less of a hit to the ole wallet than doing all 4 at once but I can't be replacing tires every 10k since just DDing my car puts 25k/year on it.

One autocross day and just did a week long trip to NC with daily driving on the Dragon, Cherahola, and Blueridge. So yeah, worked em a bit, but enjoyed every minute.

Nice, I am dying to get on the Dragon. My buddy has a place 5 minutes from the BR Parkway and I love it up there. I bought a BMW 330i ZHP and test drove it on the Parkway in NC...too much fun.

Why stick with the same stock rubber if it wears out so fast? I would go with the PSS as an alternative.

I should mention that my fronts have PLENTY of tread life left, which is why I was trying to be a little specific about the rear tires in my initial post. I'm actually surprised at how evenly worn the fronts and rears are (inside-to-outside) given how I've driven this car. Very little scrubbing on the outside blocks.

I'm not going to mix and match compounds, and I think it would be a waste to buy a new full set when my front tires have plenty of miles left on the table. But trust me, the P Zeros are done-zo once they're all worn down.

I am right at 4500 miles and I still have over 50% tread left.

The MPSS will wear much, much better compared to the Pirelli's.

That's what I'm reading online. Their practical wear seems to beat out the treadwear ratings, which is super promising. Can't find anything else except for Conti DWs that are catching my interest. I figure once the rest of my car's suspension and braking is up to spec, I'll spring for a more aggressive compound but these have always sounded like what I want.

Dont dealerships usually just throw on the softest tires. Usually takes an upgrade to get something decent. But is scary to hear that 6K is the life of these tires for some people

The manufacturer chooses the tires, not the dealers. Ford has a contract with Pirelli, just like how Chevy has a contract with Goodyear (1LE has Goodyear F1 SC G2s, the 6G has a whole lineup of Goodyear tires). Usually, you've got to go with a softer compound in order to have the performance you'd like.

Would you consider Falken tyres as a replacement. They are much cheaper than the other brands over here in the UK and I'm on my second set on my BMW and I can't fault them, rain or shine, cold or hot.

Very confidence inspiring in shitty conditions although the ones that fit the GT PP are summer only.

Appreciate the suggestion, but Falken hasn't been in my running for a while.

These P-Zeros are rated at 220 UTQG. Wondering if a set of PSSs, rated at 300 UTQG, will fair much better given the same driving behavior. I know that UTQG ratings aren't definitive guidelines...

At 10k my rear P-zeros were nearly shot, wear ribs clearly showing. I swapped them for PSS that are now @ 15k and barely show wear. They stick better, ride better and are wearing better. Not to mention they have a 15k guarantee on the tread (30k when not staggered).

I can't recommend them enough.

Edit: And I'm at the strip once a week, so these things are seeing some work.

The summer PZero came standard on a few C63 AMG's and were wearing out the rears between 5-7k miles. Switching to Mich PSS easily doubled the mileage. The PZeros on my 2011 were done at 14,000 miles with consistent rotations, and my current Continental DW setup has 20,000ish miles on them with 5/32nds remaining. Once you pick a decent tire model, the best thing to do for extended wear is get a square setup. I'll never do staggered.

Planning on getting a 16 with PP, I wouldn't mind selling my front wheels and getting another set of rear PP wheels and running PSS 275 on all four corners.

Continental ExtremeContact DW. The ProContact is an all-season touring tire that is OEM on cars like the Escape and Mercedes E-Class among many others.

Agree my Conti DW tires cannot be beat in the rain.

I think I'll be running square given the disproportionate rate that I chew through my set. Means I'll need new wheels so I figure square PSSs are in my future. Maybe 265 or 275 at all corners.

What are PSS?
