And is the sound strictly exhaust or the engine, too?

No resonators in the R. So the exhaust is louder under load and has some pop and crackle between up and down shifts as well. Depending on what octane you run too. 93 is readily available here in TX and it does pop and crackle more so than 91 from my experience.

Just the exhaust. The engines don't or shouldn't sound different.

The normal 350 has bullet style resonators that restrict flow but not nearly as much as some other resonators. It will be personal preference but the normal 350 has a more refined tone that isn't as loud but to some might sound better due to some frequencies cut out from the resonators. The R will provide more flow and indeed will pop and crackle more but the sound while being louder will also be raspier. From factory I would rather have the R exhaust as my personal preference but I think any 350 with either a Lethal Performance/Corsa X pipe sounds the best as it adds more flow but provides a slightly more refined sound that sounds better in my opinion.

From Obsessed Garage... different exhaust configurations on the same vehicle:

There is a very good video that shows a bunch of GT350s and GT350Rs accelerating up a hill on a track and you can quite clearly hear the difference under hard acceleration. Just can't find the video right now.

That ARH exhaust makes the car sound like its going a lot faster than it is.

I actually can’t stand the cracking and popping many of the new cars exhibit. I prefer the throaty exhaust notes from the old 5.0 and 4.6

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING this guy does is obsessively comprehensive.
His website is quite amazing if you are a car detailing guy.
He is a former member here who posted as Money2536.

This video inspired me to get a 350. I also snipped some of the audio for my ring tone. So many wonderful noises!

TY. So as far as you know I could do just the resonator delete and the rest (mufflers) are the same. I wonder if that effects performance as well. I would like a little more 'growl'. I did the delete on my GT and it was perfect!

I haven't tested this for sure on the Voodoo, but on my Terminator when I went from TR6 plugs to BR7EF the car would pop like crazy on decel...similar to the GT350. I eventually went back to the TR6 plugs because The BR7s also created a missfire on that car at idle. I wouldn't be surprised if changing spark plugs removed some of the pops and backfires.
