Weird. I have an air raid intake. The cap screws are stainless and the threaded inserts are brass. How the hell are they rusting??? Neither of those metals are ferrous and can't rust.

Stainless stuff can gall or cold weld but you really have to crank down on the bolts for that to happen.

Use a little anti sieze on the cap screws and it'll never happen again.
To be fair, it'll never happen again since the bolt/nut is missing in that location....I'd probably trade my airaid straight up for a stock airbox at this point...

I have the same BS issue on my '14. Rain gets onto the open filter (Steeda).

The oil does not protect anything, as someone said. The water gets on to the MAF sensor, I presume, and the car goes into some sort of safe mode for about 30 seconds.

For me, it usually happens only in very strong rain. It might even be the mist coming up from the road.

This summer, I got the vent blockers from JLT. It finally rained this year.

I had the car sitting overnight in the rain, but my vents are mostly covered by the overhang of the house. I take the car out in the morning...drives fine for 5 miles and then goes into that safe mode BS for about 30 seconds. Light rain at the time. I think the JLT insert dammed up some water and then dumped it in the filter under braking or downhill driving or something.

I might just go back to the stock box with Steeda tune. Or I might try to fashion a shield. I don't like the Jury-rigged look though.

It's a shame it's still a problem on the S550..as it was on the S197.

I haven't had any issues yet but I am considering blocking my vent as the weather gets colder.

My Procharger is mounted right under the vent and I worry about cold water and melting snow dripping onto the hot supercharger cracking it from the temp change. That being said, I've never heard of this happening.

When traveling down the highway at 70mph in the rain, you do not think your engine gets wet..?

The OP's questioned is so far removed from viable logic, that his post comes off as a troll.

Nah, I think you're being too jaded. It's a valid question, though one admittedly asked many, many times on this board. And one, that also seems to have an obvious answer (that answer is: yes).

On the 2018, with the moving of the vents your engine will get wet in different places than on the 2017, and the amount of water making it in the hood is comparably minuscule and nothing to worry about.

WTF r u talking about...?

Your engine gets wet all the time. Engine bays are not sealed and are meant to handle the environment. This whole conversation is lunacy.

The only thing you have to worry about in wet condition is your intake.

Can we please close this thread. It is ridiculous.

You must be a lot of fun at parties. No one has disagreed with this even once. Did you even actually read my response and comprehend it? I'm guessing "no.".

As I said, and others stated, of course it gets wet. The question was do the vents let in more water than a hood without, again - as has been said - of course they do. The 18's vents will drain to an area different than the 17's. because the vents have been moved This question has been asked in multiple threads even in the last few weeks, and the answer will always be the same.

And even then, the 15-17 vents in theory could drain into an open style intake (Such as the FPPP2/3) which you just said could be a problem anyway:crazy: The 18's won't have that problem at all.

You're just being a typical forum blow hard. Don't like a thread? I's easy enough to not click. Lighten up and don't be a jerk because it's just as easy to not be.

I have the CS 16 with the hood indicators, have never had any issues with water, and it rains a lot in the UK :D

I have no water issues with the OEM air box, radiator or air vents even in the pouring rain at 80mph. Maybe those automotive engineers do know a thing or two about designing cars after all.

I have an Airaid with the sealed box - it has been in the car for two years. A couple months ago, I decided to finally clean the filter - the top of the box had NEVER been off up to this point. One of the bolts/nuts was rusted together from rain water - caused by the vent. I could not remove this bolt, it spun along with the nut. I spun the entire air box cover around...this chewed up the plastic on one side, creating a gap, and , I spun the bolt as fast as I could with a drill...this heated the plastic, and it lifted out of the air box. I drilled the sloppy hole to clean it up, and re-installed everything less one bolt. I am not missing a bolt and have a gap on one side of the box. We had heavy rain one night a couple weeks before Harvey hit...my filter was wet...car was not running right all morning. I pulled my hood insulator down, cut a chunk of it, and stuffed it up inside the vent...now one vent is blocked off, and water hasn't been an issue since. I will probably go back to stock airbox at some point.

I have an Airaid and have experienced the same issue. Once I removed the bolt, I added plastic weld into the hole and reinserted the nut. It has been fine since my mod..

I also contacted Airaid about the condition of the plastic cover and they shipped me a new one.
