Last time I changed my cabin air filter on my '18 this plastic cog dropped to the floor. I suspect it may be for a soft open/close but cannot work out where it fits. Can anyone help out.

The gear-shaped components I have related to the glove box are actually bumpers and they are soft and a lighter color. I'm wondering if the component is related to HVAC controls behind the glove box. Have you changed you cabin filter recently? I don't recall anything like that being exposed and vulnerable when I changed mine, but I wasn't looking at the HVAC in detail.

If you search for air cabin filter replacement, and watch the video, you can see the part location

I found where the plastic cog goes. It is enclosed in the support arm. As MiamiGT350 said, you have to take the arm off and pry open the rear housing (red arrow in photo) to fit. The small cog sits in the arm's track.

Beats me how it came out in the first place.
