Smart on Ford's part, keeps the gt500 dna intact unmolested, no clones driving around.

Most likely there is not a physical difference, only prt numbers.

Keeping in mind, there are only so many ways to skin a cat.

like the corvette chase for number matching cars.
The GT500 part is unique to the car. This is like the story of the $26k CF wing on the CFTP.... The 11K wing on the R..... The 2K splitter on the R, etc. It is a double edges sword. Yes Ford is protecting the CFTP, 500, R by inflating the prices, but there ought to be some way for the people who own the car to get the parts at a reasonable price.

$700 something dollars for each hood latch is very unreasonable. Sounds like a $600 nuclear sub toilet seat to me..... does anyone else remember that one?

I just used the ones off my old hood!!!
I want to keep my old hood 100% OEM. I would rather source new parts for the CF hood or not do it at all.

I well remember the seat, Tom and. the high-dollar hammer but there were others, too.

Capitalism with a customer who has an unlimited wallet, the gummint. There are probably thousands if not millions of examples actually.

But I think your assessment is a good one to maintain the original hood. Would anything be wrong with those old school pins that were mentioned above?

So I was about to pull the trigger on a CF hood and deck lid today. Anderson Composites describes the hood as needing hood pins and latch as well as a heat shield.

I'll just get this out of the way..... HOLY CRAP! The hood latch mechanism (push pins) run $718 each MSRP and the nut runs $83 each MSRP. That is the cost of the carbon fiber hood!

Am I missing something?

If you wanted, I'd be willing to sell you the latch assemblies and nuts at my cost plus shipping. My cost on latches is 444.63 each and the nuts are 24.12 each, plus tax; total would be 968.18 plus ship. The latches are on backorder until 10/15 though.

If you knew what I had planned, I do believe they wouldn't go.

Thats insane! Why so much? Guess that's what it takes to have that carbon. At least it would look amazing afterward!

You are right. He is great! He truly cares about his product. I spent quite a bit of time with him on the phone.... an amazing guy. Everyone has to understand that anyone who manufactures parts for Ford is held to a very strict contract. They cannot sell these parts on the side.

I would never ask him to do such a thing, but certainly if I can tweak the application so that I can use an off the shelf quik latch item, thats where I'm going.

I dont want to trash Ford here, but they have made my project cost prohibitive. Most likely it is to protect us 500 owners from the posers that will buy parts after the fact to mimic as much of the 500 as they can.

The folks at quik latch are great. A true American dream/success story.

I'll find a way.....
I have seen many Quik Latch pins on numerous mustangs and GT350 in the last few months. I guess that's the cheaper version.

Being I have not EXAMINED the GT500 latch, the knock off looks the same to me. But, again, I have not really looked at the original.

Yup.
This is a similar concept to what Chrysler (Dodge/FCA) does with the Challenger Demon, making sure you have the VIN and ownership information to ensure you are the registered owner of the vehicle before you can buy the specific part. (though this is an obviously more extreme approach)

Speaking to someone who is familiar with this kind of stuff, he confirms the strategy is similar - price parts into the stratosphere to discourage a lot of aftermarket buying, etc.

It does suck for those of us who want to customize, though.

Agree with Tomster though, that if you are the owner of the car and stuff breaks out of warranty, sucks to have to pay that much.

I have an email in and waiting for options. Yes, I considered starting over with non OEM GT500 quik latches, but I would like to keep the OEM pin if I can.
Ok gotcha. I ordered these CF ones. Like 150 bucks. Not gonna put them on, but figured why not if I get an aftermarket hood.

The other issue is that the Anderson CF hood is all setup for OEM latches.
