Does aluminum corrosion spread like steel corrosion? I have a little bubbling on the very edge of my hood, if I leave it alone will it spread like it would on steel? It's right on the leading edge, I'm wondering if i should just sand it and touch it up like a chipped door edge instead of replacing the hood.

Nothing you can do will be a permanent fix other than cutting out the bad spot and welding in a patch panel. Lot's of threads about this on the forum.

IDK if you're familiar with the TSB. I'll attach some information about that.

It's my understanding that, there's a transfer at some level at the factory, with the stamping process involving steel and aluminum pieces.

The problem with patching, you don't know if the corrosion will pop-up somewhere else.

The TSB recommends panel replacement. Before considering any repairs, I'd chat up the dealer.

The factory warranty covers first five years of ownership. The TSB covers 2000-2020 Model Years.

A link to the most recent paint GSB I've found.

From the 2022 Warranty Guide:

"3) Your vehicle’s body sheet metal panels are covered for an extended Corrosion Coverage Period, which lasts for five years, regardless of miles driven. The extended warranty coverage only applies if a body sheet metal panel becomes perforated due to corrosion during normal use due to a manufacturing defect in factory-supplied materials or factory workmanship. If aluminum body panels have corrosion or rust damage, and the damage is not the result of abnormal usage, vehicle accident, customer actions and/or extreme environmental conditions, the corrosion or rust damage repairs are covered for 5 years, unlimited miles. For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) where there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty − our policy is to provide free repair of paint damage due to the airborne material for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first."

Thanks, I know it will return, or just stay there, it's not that noticeable and it's small. I'm wondering if it will get worse.

It will unfortunately get worse over time. My hood was so bad I had to replace it.

What pisses me off to no end is the dealer looked at it and blew me off saying it was out of warranty and they no longer cover it. It was actually still inside the warranty at the time but I didn't find out until it was expired and I had no proof the dealer looked at it while it was still inside the warranty.

That's lame. Your GT500 hood looks great though. How's fitment and paint match?

Thanks, I really love it.

Fitment out of the box is about 8.5 out of 10. I had to tweak and shim the hinges to get it to line up at the rear of the fenders. Now the gaps are as good as new OEM and it looks like my car was born with it. The center vent with the rain tray removed is totally functional.

I opted for the unpainted hood. I manage a body shop so I can't comment on the pre-painted color match. I spent a lot of time cleaning up a few rough edges and berried it in primer and prepped it out prior to painting it. The time spent really paid off and the painted surface is smooth as glass.

My only complaint is it's really heavy.

My 2017 vert just developed a corrosion spot on the left edge of the hood. No warranty left so I’ll just keep and eye on it and replace it when it gets worse.

This TSB is seperate from the car's base warranty for paint corrosion. It still applies to your car. That's why they have it apply to cars as far back as model year 2000. Call Ford customer service, and ask.
Had mine done last year.

Definitely talk to someone at Ford, you never know. If they won’t replace it, good opportunity to mod and get a cool hood of your choice 😎

I just drilled holes in it last year to add a Roush scoop! Bad timing! I called Roush and they sent me a new template in case I need to install it on a new hood. Great service from them. My corrosion is right on the edge and I'm sure I could sand it and touch it up, as long as it doesn't spread.
