So, I got run off the road and I clipped a mailbox. The only damage is to the hood of my car. There's a scratch in the clear coat but it's not all the way through...but there is a tiny dent at the point of impact.

I went to Ford and they said that because my hood was aluminum that it would have to be replaced and couldn't be repaired and it would cost $1,600.

Here's a picture. Any advice? I find it hard to believe that it can't be fixed.

Surely can be buffed out and maybe even PDR to perfection.
Worse case just cut the hood and install vents where the dent is.

So...some spit and my Oakley sunglasses cloth case later...and the marks left on the hood from the mailbox came right off. There's a little slight scratch in the clear which should buff out. It's almost unnoticeable. The only issue is there's still that little crease at the point of impact. I hope it can be fixed.

PDR should pull that right out.

$1,600 doesn't sound that bad. That dent would drive me nutz

Would take it to a PDR place and see what they can do - will be interested to see if they can work their magic in aluminum. Keep us posted please!!!!

So I called around and found a PDR specialist and he had over 70 reviews on Google with a 4.9 out of 5 rating. I texted him some pics and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Not only did he fix the 2 dents...but just as he was packed up and closing the hood...he noticed 2 more small ones. He got all his stuff back out and fixed the other dents at no extra cost. There was one small area with a scratch in the clear coat. He was able to sand that with a 2000 grit sand paper and then hit it with some polish and a microfiber cloth and it looks as good as new. He came to my house and 30-45 minutes later my car was as good as new.

The results are spectacular. Yet another example of Can't Trust a Car Dealer.
They should go around the country with a hidden camera; would make a great reality show.

I'm sure some are good but after 10 dealerships of various makes I'm still looking for a good one.

I replied back to the dealer that not only did I think their only option was a joke and that I knew there were other options. Once I got it fixed, I wrote them back and told them that they have lost me as a customer. They were the dealer I got my previous car at but after going through them trying to rake me over the coals for an extra $3,000 when I got the car and now this...I will never go there ever again...not even for a service.

I swear I have the worst luck. Sitting in the parking lot waiting for a car in front of me when this woman slams into the back of me. I had been sitting there a good 30 seconds. She said she didn't see me and went to hit the break but hit the gas instead.

Not so lucky this time. This time the damage is through the clear coat and I have to have the bumper repainted. A couple of the panels popped loose but I was able to pop those back in place.

Got two quotes so far. Went to a different dealership than the one I mentioned previously...they quoted $391.94. The second quote was from a local body shop at $359.42. I will probably get one more quote...but being that close in price...I will probably just have the dealership do the work.

I like when people take pride of their jobs. Very hard to find these people now a days.

I would get some touch up paint and try to fill the gaps and wet sand and polish.
I mean worse case you can get it repainted. Unless that woman is paying for it.

Yeah she paid me cash for it. It's getting repainted on Monday. She joked that it was the most expensive Starbucks she's ever had.
