Hmm, this is an interesting topic. We had quite a few 100+ degree days here and I drove my M1 around with windows up and A/C on. I drove my normal, spirited self and never once noticed the A/C cutting out or impacting performance. Not that WOT are ever more than a few seconds, but it’s nice to know that the A/C disengages to help with performance. I also agree with the sentiment that 500hp is plenty for a street car. As much as I’d like to supercharge it, I find my M1 to be a super balanced car. At least that’s what I tell myself to avoid the itch.

Drive one supercharged and you will more than likely feel much much different.

Went to pass someone yesterday with the a/c on (it was 100°) and when I put it into second and went wot, the a/c never turned off. I went through a couple of gears and it stayed on the whole time. I'm usually a windows down driver but it was scorching. I'm surprised I've never noticed this before. I guess my car wants to keep me comfy no matter what's happening? Lol

Well.....the AC compressor clutch disengaged, and the compressor stopped running, effectively stopping the AC. But it's not something you would notice for just a few seconds of WOT. As soon as the RPMs settled the clutch re-engaged and the system started cooling again. But the HVAC fan never stopped, and there was already plenty of cooled interior atmosphere to not notice any change.

Pretty much all vehicles do that, to protect the compressor. I'm curious, what did you expect to happen?

Thanks, yes, we covered that on the first page. I was just making a pass, not expecting to notice anything about the a/c at all, other than it turning off and the interior getting slightly warmer for just a sec. I've had cars in the past that weren't as capable at maintaining that much comfort on such a hot day, even for just a few seconds at wot. I think one of my other cars the air actually stopped blowing when you went wot. Anyway..
