GTPP in Winter

FWIW, I had my F250 in the South Dakota winters for 2 years, routinely got to -15 at least, sometimes -42 with wind chill(although I've heard it had no effect on the truck), and never had any major issues. Long start ups and long warm up times, but never gelled up fuel.

Take the truck; we had cars getting stuck in parking lots with half a foot snow drift.

I guess the only snow winter tires that will fit the GTPP are the blizzaks? The ford dealer where i bought my car, have them for the GTPP for 1300 with mount and balance. That may be the best deal as tirerack has them 1200 just for the set.

at that price it makes sense to just get some rims to fit a 245 square set up.

Yes, that does help. The 275/40r19 are expensive. Thanks for the info, i may go 245 or 255, since ill have more options when it comes to tires.

One question, will a 255/40r19 fit the rear wheel of 19x9.5?

Yes, my bad, I should have told you that they're 19x9.5 on all four corners.

Take the Excursion. I want to get one of them for winter and towing. But when i bought my 15 GT the next day i went out and bought a 01 jeep Cherokee for winter

I am moving to Iowa next week and well being from Texas I have never seen a real winter.

I have a 15 GTPP and also a Diesel 4x4 Excursion. Which should I take with me, I don't know how long I will be in Iowa but I am sure I will see all of the winter up there.

Last time I had the Excursion up in Nebraska for the cold weather I ended up freezing it because I didn't know to plug in the block heater and also put fuel additives in the tank.

I hate being without my 5.0, its much more fun to drive, but I don't know this time.

Which should I take, and also how is the 2015 GT in winter?

I've got the Excursion 4x4 with the 7.3L Diesel as well. Hard to beat honestly. You won't go wrong either way, but I'd take the excursion and just plug it in everynight, I never had a problem in Washington winters as long as I plugged it in.

Hey thanks everyone, I've taken the 5.0 and will see how it works out with snow tires. I don't care too much about damaging it, it's just a car and I plan on trading it in a year or two (High mileage driver), doesn't mean I want to heavily abuse it though, ha.

If it gets bad I'll just hop over back home and get the diesel.

I read a few replies but not all 3 pages, so I apologize if this has been said.

My experience living in Minnesota is that sporty cars are more controllable on the edge of traction than big pickups and SUVs. I avoid driving my 1999 F250 super duty 4x4 on slippery roads. It works great for plowing the driveway and powering through big piles of snow at low speeds, though.

Can you get the lighter weight diesel (#1) where you come from? The problem with the fuel gelling has to do with the diesel you put in it. The #2 diesel will gel very easily at lower temperatures, so if you decide to drive to Iowa in the winter, make sure you've been running #1 long enough to have all of the #2 fuel completely flushed out of the system.

If you are a timid sort, take the Excursion. I drive my GT every day all year 'round, but I also use snow tires in winter. I also grew up driving rear wheel drive cars in ND, so I'm used to it. People around here think I'm a little nuts, but I agree with you that the Mustang is much more fun and I don't want to go 1/2 the year driving something else. My main advice for a newbie driving in snow/winter is to try to avoid spinning the tires too much. You get the most traction on snow and ice right before the tires break loose, so you will accelerate more quickly if you don't spin the tires excessively. Also, if it is super slippery you don't want to get the tires warm, because they can melt the ice and there's nothing worse than having a thin layer of water between the ice and your tires.

The other factor to consider is salt. If you plan to keep the Mustang forever, you are going to want to avoid exposing it to salt. If you will have it a few years and then sell it, don't worry too much about that.
