I love the fact that Ford is doing this but I was of the opinion beforehand that with that much hp, the full carbon body, the transaxle, and on and on, pretty close to race car reverse engineered into a "street car," it better be able to go sub 7. From what I read about the ZO6, its gearing held it to slower top speeds on the high speed sections and really slowed its lap time which didn't end up much off of this car's at a 7:10. Be interesting to compare VIR full course lap times as most of us will never get to the 'ring.

I still think they were sand bagging
yea, this is the latest rumor mill on the interwebz…

Given that they were burning tons of money to have all those engineers there and were there for the sole purpose of setting a record lap time, I can't imagine any reason for "sandbagging"
oh cmon, you’ve been around longer than that…I wonder what in the world could have possibly been leaked/announced and finally verified just before the august run, that would have led Ford to sandbag 🄸

for the record…I don’t care who takes and/or keeps the title, just happy to be around during the timeframe. AND I don’t believe for a second, that their first ever lap was the absolute fastest, just not possible šŸ˜¬šŸ‘šŸ¼

That's a wild theory. They're not going to go there with all of those engineers and then "take an easy lap". Nothing about that onboard video said "easy lap" to me and the cool story is breaking the 7 minute barrier.
Dude, take a breath.

They said they were going to break the 7 min mark They did

There are lots of reasons players at this level sandbag. I don't know if they did or not, but if they come in with a 6:40 lap next time out I'll forever believe they ran this lap to tickle the 7 min mark and nothing else.

I'm relaxed. It's not like I'm investing $400,000 into a 4,000lb mustang track car here. I just don't know of any instance where a manufacturer has sandbagged on a lap time like this. If you know of an instance where that's happened then I'd love to read about it. I'll fully admit we've seen it in scenarios like IMSA GT3 pre-season testing to try and gain an advantage when it comes to BOP to get a win at the Daytona 24 before they get alappes mid-season for their antics, but never in the production car world as sandbagging doesn't have any real advantage.

It gets people talking for a longer time, is one reason I can think of.

If you're referencing the ZR1, they're not comparable.

The GT500 CFTP is probably around 14 seconds off of a Z06 around the ring with nothing having the same hp to weight ratio.

The GTD will make up that time snd then some, but the ZR1 has more Aero than thr Z06 and 400 more hp. This wildly throws the hp to weight ratio in favor of the ZR1 and I don't feel the suspension will be so much better on the GTD to make up for that power to weight advantage. We will wait and see.

to be fair, we are kind of in uncharted territory here šŸ˜‰

How am I talking smack? I made an observation on pricing and a guess that the ZR1 will beat the GTD in their testing. I don’t think that’s off base based on the Z06 running a 7:10:51 with a gearing issue in 5th. The new ZR1 will have a near 60% horsepower increase and more aggressive aero. I fully anticipate it will be faster and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.
Wow, I'm surprised the Z06 was so slow. You're saying the transmission wasn't working properly and they couldn't fix it? Not sure I'm buying that excuse. But the Z06 probably weighs about the same or possibly more than the GTD, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

GTD has been widely reported in development to weigh about what the GT500 CFTP weighs at around 4,000lbs. The Z06 weighs about 3650. ZR1 with the turbos will probably come in around 3800.

Over in the GTD Allocations thread, it was mentioned the GTD that ran the Ring lap was ~3,800lbs.

GTD is supposed to be 50/50. Not sure on the ZR1

I am saying 5th is too long and not optimal for the ring. They aren’t going to build a trans for the ring specifically and for obvious reasons they aren’t adjusting gear ratios in the trans for a ring time while at the track.
