It's for the X brace.
"X-brace" could/should be mounted behind the seat. not in place of it.

A serious roll-cage is the only time I see a rear seat delete appropriate.

+1, especially since Steeda sells an x-brace that can fit both with and without the rear seat(for the S197 at least, I'm sure an S550 version will come as well).

Now a rear roll-bar with harness attachment points, like in the Porsche GT3, would be a very nice reason to do without a back seat.

I wouldn't call it a roll-cage because any bars that surround the occupants' heads would not be streel legal, and would be very dangerous without helmets.

Looks like a brake duct before the rear wheel...

It's only the rear-half. Doesn't go over the driver's head. Maybe it's illegal, I don't know. Lots of people have them in Texas & Japan. It's legal in those places.

Interesting find TN, was looking for this particular line on the car shown at the LA show and couldn't find it anywhere on the body

I know what you originally meant. The GT3 uses a roll-bar which is perfectly legal, and has the added benefit of having race harness anchor points for track days. I just wanted to make the distinction between roll-bar and a full roll-cage. Someone might see a roll-bar and incorrectly assume it is legal for full road-racing.

Oh ok. I see what you're saying. Roll-bar vs roll-cage.

Roll-bars are legal for amateur racing in my area so I don't bother with the distinction. Some don't require roll-bar or cage. But you're totally correct.

I'll keep that in mind.

Actually, from what I have seen, the GT350R will be similar to the Laguna Seca, as in it will be a higher performing version of the base GT350, here is what I've heard from "sources"

GT350R will hold the same options as the GT350 but with the following additions:

-394mm/380mm Carbon Ceramic Rotors with the 6 piston and 4 piston setup
-19x11 and 19x11.5 Carbon Fiber Wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires in 295/35/19 and 305/35/19
-Rear seat delete with X brace
-Improved magneride suspension programming
-Larger sway bars
-Brake duct cooling
-Carbon Fiber Driveshaft

There has been talks of the GT350S, which will be a non street legal version, similar to the Boss 302S.
So I guess I was dead on ;)

Hit it pretty close.
Missed the tire sizes a bit, they are bigger 305 & 315.
and if there is an X-brace it's hidden.
