Basically the engine protecting itself. It will cut fuel & spark to certain cylinders, allowing those cylinders to act as air pumps to help cool the engine. As a result, you don’t get full power from the engine, your car runs just enough to limp along until you can get to a safe location to let the car cool down.Limp Mode?
We were just having a similar conversation about cylinder deactivation in the general forum. Some folks were confusing limp mode with cylinder deactivation (it’s not, cylinder deactivation is totally different and Ford does not use it on Mustang).
