I know the trans in the gt350 is different, but does anyone know if it's much stronger than the mt82? I am again thinking about a gt350, but I like to drag race so want to make sure it can hold up to a boosted voodoo before I make the switch.

Thanks

The TR-3160 is an incredibly durable transmission, and Ford claims that the version in the GT350 is even stronger than stock.

Boosted 5.2 used for drag racing? Choose another transmission. Everything points to a TR6060 variant (Magnum XL, etc). Heavier, sucks more power from the engine, isn't the smoothest shifting, but will handle pretty much everything you throw at it power wise.

Unsure what you're trying to say. The only Ford application that uses the TR3160 is the GT350.

The TR-3160 in its stock form is used by other manufacturers. The GT350 variant of the TR3160 is more robust than the standard TR-3160 you'd buy direct from Tremec.

The design of the Voodoo doesn't lend itself to boosting (without doing some major work like lowering the CR), might want to wait on the GT500.

Not wanting to mince, it was your use of the word "stock" that drew my attention. There are a number of different case configurations as well as torque ratings so there is no "standard" configuration. The only Ford variant is the TR3160 as made to bolt to a Coyote/5.2 bellhousing pattern, in a specific length, and with one pair of "ears" for a single armed shifter. That's it, that's stock. I had one in my possession, delivered directly to my home.

You could bolt a blower to a leaf blower if you were so inclined. Has nothing to do with durability. Lethal will destroy parts on that car and undoubtedly, part deux will include a bevy of FI capable hardware that will be far more robust.

We're not real sure how durable the transmission will be pushing the power we're pushing, or even less than we're making, but first gear is an absolute bitch for drag racing.

If you want a good "great" transmission. Buy a Jericho. You can get any gear ratio and it's light years better then a tremec! Plus it has dog rings and if you get the long V-gate shifter you can eliminate the H shift pattern and just row through the gears back and forth. I have one in my fox body. Best trans I ever had! Simply awesome. It's not a direct bolt in but either is a Whipple.
