Texas World Speedway this past weekend. Driver downshifted going from 4th to 3rd and transmission exploded. Made it to turn one corner worker where the fire extinguished. Coming off turn one at 130 mph, should have stayed in 4th.

Silly question what is the top speed of 3rd? and is this post potentially voiding his warranty lol

Edit its a 109. Engine probably isnt too happy about that. Sure it was the transmission?

Just curious.... was this a Track/R? Or a base/Tech GT350?

Or if a 2017 then we know it has the standard trans cooler.... but for sure at that high speed, I'd stay in 4th gear to be safe.

Yeah.... I'd say it doesn't matter what model it was - I'm pretty certain 3rd doesn't make it anywhere near 130.

And always a chance driver caught first by mistake....

Lucky the trans or something else mechanical let loose instead of locking the rear wheels and putting the car and its occupants into something immovable.

Being on a 150 MPH straight on the road course, I can assure you all 130 is quite near the top of 4th gear. I remember quite vividly. That and the turd that launched out of me like a cannon on that narrow little patch of track...

When I used to drag race I always used a shatter proof bell housing. Imagine this clutch blowing at 8200 rpm. Say bye bye feet!!!

Here's what I'm calculating for speed in gears @ 8200 RPM:

GT350 with 305-35-19 rear tires:
1st: 55
2nd: 80
3rd: 111
4th: 144
5th: 179
6th: 285

GT350R with 315-30-19 rear tires:
1st: 53
2nd: 77
3rd: 107
4th: 139
5th: 173
6th: 275

Dang that's a sad sight... talk about money shift. :(

Well we now know it's a Track Pack but that likely doesn't matter in this case.

Then you are sure its a '17? It doesn't have the Recaros, so it could be a '16 Tech/Base with a track pack spoiler.

Yeah true could be... I'm assuming a Track pack since it also has the aluminum strut tower bar although it's hard to tell in the pic if it's the 2016 vs. 2017 FP logo.

So a '16 with about $800 worth of changes or a '17
