Hey everyone,

I know this has kind of been beat to death but I figured I'd ask again and see if anyone has heard any updates on this.

As everyone knows, availability for the Michelin PSS is abysmal at best, and tire rack told me that they would be available again at the end of September. Now that has been moved to October so I'm starting to wonder if Michelin is giving them the runaround and they don't intend to make them again. Michelin customer support said there is no date for availability at this time. I've been able to track one 305/35/19 PSS down, but not a second one. Who knows how long its been sitting there at this point.

I very much do not want to go down to the 305/30/19 unless I absolutely have to (i.e. I'm running on cords and can't find a tire). I think the wheel gap looks weird but more importantly I just can't be any lower right now.

Has anyone tried to run the 295/35/19 PS4S on the rear? I can't imagine 10mm is going to make much of a difference and I'd rather run the correct sidewall ratio than the correct width.

Anyone in the know heard anything different from Michelin? I know people are hopeful for the PS4S to be made in 305/35/19, but when I asked Michelin today they said its not happening.

Thanks

Pretty sure they're still available, I don't want that tire though. Not practical and I'm lucky if I make it to the track once a year, and its usually in my Miata anyway.

I just went through this whole debate myself. I really was looking for something more sticky though. I ended up with SC2. I could not find MSS anywhere and yeah I was seeing october for dates. Wanted somthing sooner with a track day coming up in a week.

Paid 2100 for SC2 mounted balanced and alignment.

Good call on the miata! that would be a dream garage for me. GT3, miata, gt350

I'm struggling with this as well. I've called just about everywhere there is to buy tires and in the PSS 295/35 are to be had fairly easily but 305/35 availability is just nonexistent. I think if you are desperate for tires either a 295/35 PSS rear or full SC2 setup are your only options via Michelin at this point.

I'm a Michie fan boy so I will probably roll with the SC2 if I cant source the 305's in the near future. But I'm not looking forward to going through this again 2-3k miles down the road when the SC2's are bald and near cords. Sucks.

Yeah at this point I just placed the order for the rears, and if I get down to cords and they still haven't started production I'll reevaluate at that time. I did find 2 305/35 PSS on 2 other websites, but who knows how long those have been sitting there.

Yeah, its such a drastic price difference for consumables between a Miata and either of those cars. I think regularly tracking the GT350 would bankrupt me lol.

Just spoke to tire rack and the last shipment of the 305/35 PSS they got was in June...so the tire still exists. They're expecting to have some at the end of the year. I'm not sure if the "PSS is discontinued" rumors are real or just people making assumptions. If a production run never happens I will either do a square 295/35/19 setup, or a square 305/30/19 setup. I hate to go narrower, but not as much as I hate to go shorter. I guess I won't know how ugly the wheel gap looks with a 30 sidewall until I see it in person.

A bit off topic I know, but has anyone done winter storage with the PSC2s? Unfortunately all I have is an unheated canvas "garage-in-a-box" (town wouldn't let me build anything else). The car won't move all winter, but I am not sure how these will hold up. My 2011 GT500 was fine the last few years on PSS and PS4S sitting on the tires, just not sure if the PSC2s are more sensitive to being in (not driving in) the cold.

The 295/35R19 Pilot Sport 4S is only .4 of an inch narrower than the stock 305 MPSS (11.9 vs. 12.3). That's negligible for daily driving and I'd argue mostly negligible even for track use. This is a good option if you're really stuck on a 35 series.

Otherwise, I'd just throw the 305/30R19 PS4S tires on all 4 corners and be done with it. You won't have any measurable loss in performance.

I wouldn't let them sit in 40 or below for an entire season. Got a basement in the house?

Yeah - that is what I think I will need to do. Get a second set of jack stands (only have 2 now) and pull them for the winter. Pain in the #$@ but probably worth it given the cost of these tires. Was planning to replace them with PS4S when the time came (tires have ~2200 miles on them now but still look pretty good), but if they are hard to get I may have to rethink that. I definitely want something better in the rain/wet than the PSC2s. I use my 350 as a daily driver spring through fall.

On tire rack, the 295/35/19 PS4S tread width is 9.8 inches. The section width is 11.9. Not sure which one actually counts when its on a car driving down the road.

section width is what you want. That’show most tires are measured when talking about width since tread width depends on the type of tread used.
