As much as I enjoy my Mustang GT, it just doesn't feel that fast.

So I'm thinking of importing a GT350 to the UK (if I can get hold of one) for approximately £85k or $110k dollars. Anyone who has a GT350, how do they think it compares to say a standard Porsche 911 (similar price in UK)? Or go for a Corvette Grand Sport for around £76k ($98k) and bank the difference?

Be interesting to hear your thoughts
You can save some money as there is one on eBay for £69,995 and it’s in Essex with delivery mileage, may be worth checking that out

i have a similar internal debate. I would love a gt350, but can't bring myself to pay £70K GBP for one. At £55K i would have one in a heart beat.

The thought of the build quality being no better than my GT puts me off. I ruled out a 911 as the engine has 2 too few cylinders and sounds a bit dull to my ears. The Vette is a contender and can be purchased in the UK with a warranty so no personal import required, but for £70K I am personally waiting for the new TVR Griffith to enter normal production. It should deliver all the good things a gt350 would in right hand drive and with better build quality (fingers crossed)

I'll post my video for you regarding performance against Audi R8, GT3's and others and you can make up your own mind as to performance difference. All cars are driven by instructors!

Enjoy the music

Awesome video. I wish it were higher def though. Not sure who was having more fun, you or your copilot.

What!!? Did you just say build quality and TVR in the same sentence? LOL, it looks pretty sweet. Not digging the interior as much as the exterior though.

What's driving the $100K price? Is that $40K for individual import, shipping, and a $60K acquisition price in the US? I don't know how your laws run, but is it cheaper to import a used car vice new? Because if it is you can pretty easily get a very lightly used GT350 for a little over $50K but more importantly you might be able to save some $ on taxes and other import fees because it's used. Just make sure you know your local laws on "used". My brief google research seems to indicate that there is a 17.5% VAT but you may not have to pay that if it's over a year old (that is actually owned for a year). p.s. I am not a tax attorney.

Feeling fast doesn't mean I want it to be fast just in a straight line. Sometimes a slower car can feel faster than a faster car. Also, like the handling, look and noise of the GT350. Aston Martin is not something that would interest me (maybe when I'm 60!), especially as can't get them with stick shift in UK.
In this case, it's because the car is so big...definately not slow, just the size makes it seem so. The GT350 is the same size and wieght, so there will be no difference in perceived speed.

The GT350 I'd an amazing car, however for 110k...no.

US purchase price + shipping with VAT on top + 10% import duty

Factor into that the weak pound and anything imported from the USA at the moment is not a sensible purchase.

VAT (equivalent to your sales tax) is 20% plus need to add on import duty of another 10%. That 10% import duty may be removed once/if we leave the EU. Still have to pay taxes on a used car unfortunately, unless can prove you bought and used it for a prolonged period in US.

Thanks for your comments all. Seems 911 is most popular overall but doesn't sound as good as GT350 or as unique. Food for thought!

I don't have much experience with autos but I'm sure at the minimum you'll need a giant cooler to avoid limp mode. Towing is not even in the same universe of stress as track driving though. The differential cooling hardware alone is $2k, and without that one component you'll be in limp mode or trash the diff in short order. Now upgrade the brakes, add provisions for brake cooling, upgrade the suspension, bigger oil cooler, wheels,...you'll end up spending more than the 350, with less reliability because it's cobbled together. You can still have fun with the GT w/PP, and get some good laps in, but it will not withstand a full session of hot laps without $10k+ in parts.
Except you will end up spending $10k+ on track proofing a GT350 or else the GT350R wouldnt exist. And larger $ improving a GT350R or else the FP350S wouldn't exist. GT4....And so on...so regardless of where you start you are spending money!

No doubt incremental improvements can always be made if you're chasing lap times or racing. I'm simply stating that out of the box a GT350 will run the whole fuel tank if you want without overheating on a road course. It is already track proof. Without the major upgrades I mentioned before, a GT or any other IRS mustang won't go for long without overheating and pulling the power to protect the drive train.

In the states a used GT350 with low miles can be had in the mid 40k range. A 911 the same year and miles will be nearly twice that price.

I wouldn't spend 100k on any car but if I had to choose between the 2 I would take the 911 without a doubt.
