Because they wanted a slower car.
Just...no. The GT350 is about being a fantastic driver's car above all else. An auto is a significant step back from that mission. Like you, I've gotten my car to handle similarly to a GT350 (and I've logged significant miles in one so I can say this with confidence), but that doesn't make it a greater driver's car. That car is greater than the sum of its parts.

Missouri, with it's humid subtropical climate, really doesn't meet the "roads that see freeze / thaw cycles" requirement, does it?
There's more to "drives better" to a corner-carver enthusiast than "rides better" (which is about the only "feel" thing about driving that most car owners at large even have a clue about). Maybe there's a lot more.

Maybe they were after the sort of buyer who wants something other than point-and-shoot driving dynamics from their car. Something more than stomp on the skinny pedal and hang onto the steering wheel.

I suspect that there were doubts about any production automatic's ability to survive the rpm capability and vibration characteristics of the Voodoo version of FPC V8.

I can assure you that there was never any consideration for anything but a manual for the GT350/GT350R.

Well, this thread has certainly gone downhill. As a DD, the regular GT is probably better for most people, but the 350 has a lot going for it that has been covered. I think objectively you can say resale value is going to be a higher percentage of purchase price based on current prices on 16-18 GTs vs 16-18 350s. But get what you want. I wouldn't sell either one as an investment. I think the difference in looks is kind of a big deal. Not that a regular GT looks bad, but the 350 looks better, IMO a lot better.

A GT350 certainly can be a DD . . . for the right kind of driver. That doesn't mean having to always be at extra-legal speeds.

Buy a Tesla if your only concern is 0-60 times
We are talking about a GT350 with no auto. Not a Tesla.
Guess y’all won’t be buying a GT500 then due to no stick. I on the other hand will. Looking at pulling the trigger on 2021 or 2022. Let the ADM die down like I did my old GT350.

But I digress. Get whatever car you feel is right for you. Wanna row the gears in a unique car. Get that one. You want and auto that is faster with minimal mods. Get that one.
Or wait for the GT500 and get the handling of the GT350 with the speed of a modded GT.

Love my GT350 and I have no regrets. My last Shelby was a fully modded 11 GT500 that ran mid 10's in the 1/4. As I said no regrets. The GT350 is not as fast..(in a straight line) but man you really need to drive one, I mean really drive it to understand what people talk about. Can you daily it ? I would say yes. In regular driving mode, it's like any other stick Mustang. It's not harsh and it ride smooth. Hit the button for sport, track, ect...and yeah. Look out.

I currently have both . A 2016 GT 350 tech pac and 18 A10
PPI/premium/Magneride/Recaro.

I have driven them back to back when they were both stock and there really is no contest .
The GT 350 feels more “bottoned down” even as a DD.
Sure , the GT is faster in a straight line but never feels as “special “ as the GT350. The exhaust note alone is (almost) worth the $10k price difference and you could probably get a “gently” used GT 350 for less than I paid for my GT.

No argument from me, but you should note that "rides better" was not my comment.

No . . . not in so many words, anyway.
Well, honestly, in no many words. Go back and read the thread. The person I was responding to with was using "drives better" and "feels better" as though they were uncontrovertible fact. I made the statement that those terms were subjective. If you want to disagree with that, have at it.
