This thread made me question my decision when i saw how nice the Infiniti cars are for not much more money.

Then I took the Mustang out and rev matched it with the windows down, watched the oil and vacuum gauges dance and listened to the V8 purr.

Now I am assured that I made the right choice.

fit and finish is good for the front passengers. its hilariously bad in the back seat. even my 5 year old has commented mocking someone in the factory who put the car together pointing to the fit of the c pillar trim to the roof liner saying " this gap will be good enough". there is also the constant misalignment of the split between the rear seats which you can't help but notice when looking in the rear view.

OP, I cross shopped some oddballs too. It's all about your priority. Mine was fun but still affordable. Based on that, I cross shopped WRX/STI, GTI/Golf R, and the Focus ST. The R was quickly dismissed because of no haggle on the pricing and manuals were unicorns. The Mustang GT was only entertained because I knew I could get a very good price on it.

Based on what I'm reading, is the Q50 interior a big upgrade from the G37? Because the G37 was not that good. I would rank the S550 Premium w/Premier and 201A/401A above the G37, or equal with trade offs. When looking at used ones, little things like not all the buttons being double-shot so they don't light up and the labels rub off was very off putting. The used G37x sedan I drove had a wonderful rattle in the rear every time the road surface wasn't perfect.

If you want fun with a nice interior, I'd entertain the Golf R. It will certainly be more fun than a Q50 and have a much larger aftermarket community. The new Mercedes interiors are what really make me go wow.


The Mustang was honestly a huge surprise to me after having sat in and driven many more cars than I listed above. After my first drive, I immediately wondered how many classic Mustang fans they alienated with this car. Then I thought, maybe for every person they alienated they gained someone who drove it and thought, "Wow, THIS is a Mustang?"

I seem to have "cross luck". Let me explain: I heard nothing but good things about Infiniti's "build quality" and was really impressed when I was in a loaner G35 with over 20K miles and not one single creek, squeak, or rattle to be heard (like you I HATE these things). My wife got me a G35 for my 50th birthday and, with only about 3K miles on the clock, I started getting rattles in the interior. I was soooooo pisssssed. Seems like it's always my luck to get the one lemon car. Fast forward to today and the "cross luck" I've heard so many complaints about creeks and rattles in the S550 interior (along with panel fitment issues) and yet my 2015 GT has been perfect. My panel alignment seems just fine, and I don't have a single squeak, creek, or rattle to be found. So I guess it's just the luck of the draw. I can say one thing for sure. The Infiniti's V6 may have been fun, but he Mustangs V8 is just AMAZING!

I'm a long time Infiniti owner (since '95, still own 2 - '03 G35 sedan & '09 G37 Vert) and they are very different cars. I bought the 'stang knowing it would not compare in terms of fit/finish, materials quality etc., just wanted a fast 'n loud toy and that's what I got.

I have to say I'm disappointed in the overall quality of the car (panel alignment is inexcusably poor and the driveline vibration issues suck) and I'd be pulling my hair out if I was stuck with it as a DD. As the 3rd "play" car, it's a blast to have but clearly the domestic automakers still don't 'get it' when it comes to bolting these things together.

Net is my '03 G35 with 115K miles has fewer squeaks & rattles than my new GT, paint still looks good, leather interior is in great shape (other than the drivers seat needs refoaming due to age & my fat arse sitting in it all these years). It's still my go-to car/DD out of the 3.

The other consideration is the dealer experience. I've always been treated well @ Infiniti, not like some stupid schmuck that just fell off the back of a hay wagon. I've also gotten spoiled by the automatic free loaner even if they only need the car for a day.

So, I'd say drive them both several times (back-2-back if possible), think long & hard about how you plan to use the car & what your expectations & priorities are - do you want a more refined well screwed together ride or is the power more alluring.

Maybe compare is the wrong word. But I think its common to WANT more than one type of vehicle so if you have to choose nothing wrong with seeing whats available in those types.

I've had the car for a little over 7 months and have about 3K miles on it.

Any car given enough millage will start rattling. A sports car is gonna be more prone to rattles because of stiff suspension.
My Mustang so far is rattle free or I can't hear it over my exhaust.

Having owned five Acura cars and four Honda car/SUV's I had no problem transitioning to my GT Premium. No rattles. Fit is not as tight as Acura. Tune it and put on aggressive exhaust and enjoy daily driving. I am very happy.

Mine rattled since day 1, lol. The rattle would stop for a period of time then come back on and off. I'm used to it by now but I can imagine it would drive people crazy on a brand new car.

Having own 2 Mustangs, I will note that Ford has got to have the worst paint in the industry. It chip from splattered bugs and debris like no other. My family owns Nissan, Honda and Toyota well above 100k miles and never saw this problem, yet my 2 mustangs under 20k got chips all over the front bumper. That's some weak clear coat. Take extra care of the paint if you buy a ford.

not sure how they're comparable in price. I see at least $10k in difference, when you start checking some of the option box on the Q50.
You can get the new Mustang GT for under invoice. I doubt you can for the Infiniti.
I got my 2016 GT Premium 401A, PP, Nav, Rear Sensor, premier trim for $37.5k. Base Q50 starts at $37k.
Go test drive one. Mustang won't be perfect, but that 5.0 may change your mind. I know it did for me.

Ford turned the corner on interiors around 2012. I loved my SHO, but missed the manual transmission my audi and volvo had. I was looking for a Golf R and had zero intentions of getting a mustang.

Until looking at youtube videos of the Golf R, and went down a thread where they were talking about the redesign of the mustang for 2015 (s550). Was amazed at how much tech there was compared to my last mustang in 1998. I went the next day and testd rove my car and was blown away at how well done the interior was, let alone the rest of the car.

Made my deal the next day and never looked back.
