GT 350 Brake Question

Hi all! Picked up my 2016 avalanche gray Shelby GT 350 last week, super excited! Car only had about 19,600 miles on it. Had it fully inspected by my mechanic before purchasing. This weekend I didn’t get to drive the car much because the weather was crappy, but took it for a few short drives and noticed upon stopping just about the last few miles per hour before I stopped, I hear this high pitch brake squeal coming from I’m almost 100% sure the front. Of course it didn’t do that the other day when I picked it up . That kind of stuff drives me nuts, however, I’ve read that it’s not uncommon on these cars. I’ve heard a couple tips to do a few Firm stops from 50 miles an hour to 10 to try to bed the brakes. Any other tips and is this pretty standard operating procedure? My Mechanic upon his inspection, found the pads and rotors to be well within life. If I tried the bedding and the noise doesn’t go away what pads and rotors do you recommend for predominantly spirited street use? I don’t plan on tracking the car love everybody’s insight thank you in advance.

OK, thanks! I’m assuming if I replace the rotors OEM as well? Any experience or tips to get rid of the squeal?

You shouldn't have any squeal with stock pads and rotors. I'd hazard a guess that the pads on your car now are not stock, and that is the source of the squeal. But without seeing them, I can't really tell you.

Can I tell by looking at them in the calipers?

My OEM pads would squeal at least 50% of the time when stopping slowly - never squealed when aggressively stopping. But I got tired of the dust for a non-tracked car and went with the GLOC GS-1's. Dust is significantly reduced and squealing very rarely occurs. I would also stick with OEM rotors.

If you are not price constrained and want to reduce weight, you could go carbon ceramic. Not sure about low dust options or noise, but @JAJ has all the info on that route.

got it thanks! Mine only squeal when slowly stopping the last few MPH before stop, not while braking at any speed on the road etc. I'll see how it goes when I get to drive it more and if it still happens and drives me nuts LOL. Where is the best site to buy the GLOC pads?

Welcome to the performance brake system club. Track cars disguised as street cars make race car noises.

Go out and drive it hard for a while before you start throwing parts at it. It may resolve itself, if the radio works that solves a lot of issues with brake noise.

After that we do offer a US (NC) made GS1 High Performance G-LOC street pad. One thing you can try is to take off the rotors and sand them with 80 grit paper. This will remove any built up pad material on the rotors. The factory pads survive mild track days so these are not sedan paper pads, they are fairly aggressive, on the rotor and with the dust. The GS1 is basically silent. The dust wipes off and is actually a very light color so it does not show up much.

Your rotors are fine, no need to replace them, don't let anyone turn them. Any new pad will wear into the micro-grooves in the rotor.

Whatever you do just stay away from the low dust and “quiet” ceramic pads if you want to retain the strong initial bite the stock pads produce. And, as stated by others, the stock set up is fairly aggressive and def not tuned to be quiet. The owners manual supplement even warns about it. Enjoy them!

Went for a drive last night definitely was not as prominent and sometimes didn’t even make the sound. Starting to realize it’s a race car with air conditioning LOL and a radio
