Uninsured Motorist covers medical costs, not damage to the car. If you didn't get anything from your policy for the totaled car it was because you didn't have collision coverage. One of the reasons I have Uninsured Motorist on my policy. Got into an accident in North Carolina on vacation, hit and run, other driver had no insurance, so they basically told us sucks to be us. Had to get a new vehicle as the old one was totaled and couldn't get anything for the totaled one.
I'm just mentioning it in case anyone gets or is thinking about adding uninsured motorist coverage thinking it will repair/replace their car if hit by someone without insurance. It won't.
