Good MPG in a GT

Useless clarification, you have 3.15 gears. 3.31 are only an option on EB for AT (unless you switched it yourself, or 2016 changed the options).

Also, the only way to claim 25MPG in a GT is if you only ever drive on highway with no stops, the claims are a timeslice of pure (or mostly pure) highway driving. I am averaging 19.7 (hand calc) and do around 60-70% highway driving. On commute days with no traffic (90% highway), the most I can reasonably do is 21-22.

Mine does 29-30MPG if I plop it in sixth gear, set cruise at 75, and don't touch it.

But my overall average is like 18MPG, because city driving drinks fuel by the boatload. And I have a lead foot around town. But hey, I didn't buy a Prius, so I don't care.

I have around 7000 miles on my GT, the best MPG for me was to fill up, get on the freeway and shift into sixth turn on cruise at around 65-70 mph for around 200-300+ miles with no traffic. That gave me 25 MPG on the trip computer.

I finally broke the 20mpg/tank barrier and it sucked the life out of me! I have purposely been trying to get the mpg's people have been posting and you really have to drive like a little old lady to do it! My commutes are 90 miles R/T 90% hi-way. I slowed the commute to 78mph and let about 30% of the people pass me (before was 0%). I would pass slow enough as to not kick down a gear. It was the only way I could get over 20mpg, and as I said, it killed me. I mean, whats the point of having a GT if you drive like that? So if your getting more than 23mpg in your GT, you're driving like a sissy!

That really surprised me, Driving 69 MPH on 6th gear will do wonders on 3:31 gears.

Yes I agree, people said to me on my 3000 mile European Trips how can you afford to take your car over there, well it worked out cheaper then hiring a car
We sometimes have discussions on the MCGB when someone posts about finding a garage that is a whole 2 pennies cheaper on petrol
But as you say if you are worried about the Gas, you really dont want a V8. And with the rev-matching will be even worse, cant wait to have fun with that

I agree you aren't going to get 28 long term driving hard. Only on the highway driving extremely easy with the cruise on and in perfect road conditions. 28 won't be an average for someone daily driving over thousands of miles.

I'm getting between 18 and 19 as the average over the nearly 5,000 miles I have on my GT350. However, I did go on a longer freeway trip last winter and that had a big impact on my long term average, since those miles are still a significant portion of the total miles I have on the car. Also during the winter I have to go easier since I'm very traction limited in low temperatures. I have some autocross and road course events planned this summer, so I expect my average to keep decreasing to below 17 before the end of the summer. I could get the dash to read over 24 mpg on a highway drive, but it's not the real fuel economy I'm getting with the car.

My lifetime fuel mileage is 20.4 in my GT auto. Hwy trips are easily in the 27 mpg range and at 55-60 mph I can get 30. That's not bad considering what performance is at my disposal. I have a buddy with an ecoboost 15 stang and he gets about 2-3 mpg better than me on average and I am the more aggressive driver. Everyone knows fords ecoboost engines only get good mileage on the window sticker. Real world testing shows they have a very hard time replicating what they are rated. The company I work for has a fleet of eb f 150 and they don't get the mileage the Chevy 5.3 gets unless you drive it like a complete pus.

I can verify everything you said with personal experience. My auto GT runs ~21 mixed and my wife's auto ecoboost runs ~22.5 mixed. GT is driven harder except when I drive the ecoboost on the weekend.:lol:

I just took my first road trip in my GT with 3.55 gears and A6. I filled up with 87 and drove from Reno, NV to Fairfield, CA and back the following day. Trip was 386.6 miles and MPG avg. for the trip was 26.9. I used the cruise control for most of the trip, but on Hwy 80 over the mountain pass, you get slowed down a lot by truckers that move to the fast lane to pass other truckers that are hauling loads and can only climb the hill at about 40 MPH.
Since I'm retired, and drive mostly city streets with car in Sport+ mode I usually get just over 15 MPG. I figure the lower MPG means I'm driving it like it was meant to be driven.

With 3.73s i get around 23mpg when cruising on the highway at 60-75mph. This is also with a brand new engine and me sometimes forgetting there is a 6th gear.

I've got a fairly short commute roughly 12 miles with 75% highway. I'm averaging 19. On my days off its all city too. Granted I only have 2000 miles on the car now. I'm pretty satisfied with that. My 13 V6 averaged 22 on the same commute.

What is gas mileage?

I am very heavy footed, not really concerned with MPG, if I was I'd be driving a Fiesta. Coming from a lifted F150 Ecoboost that towed a boat on weekends anything that is over 10 MPG is good. haha

Did a road trip today... and got 29.5 mpg with my GT. I just think it's amazing to get that.

And that's US MPG too I'm getting great figures after fitting an JLT CAI tuned for 93 fuel & opening up the exhaust
