Getting flagged at the track for dB's

Any of you homies been flagged yet? One of my good friends is an officer in my local SCCA region and he received reports from other regions that 350's and 350R's are too loud for most Solo events and a certain track day events (granted most tracks are surrounded by whiners who at will decided to live next to a race track so the dB limits are in super full force).

I too would be interested if there were official DB levels posted for each car. I have been followed 3 times so far by law enforcement, each time i went to closed mode in a hurry and after a few blocks they turned off.

If they are 50 state street legal, I don't see how they could be restricted @ the track ? CA is some pretty restrictive limits.

I'm not surprised some tracks would flag our cars for db issues. This thing is loud with mufflers open at 8k! I love it but it's loud.:eyebulge:

Most SCCA Solo events have a dB limit of 95 - 100 at 50 feet. 100 is a club wide limit for all Solo and Track day events but lower limits can be enforced from region to region. Just depends on the site really. I know SCCA does that as a courtesy for the general populous around event areas but also to protect the hearing of club members who are working course. Frankly, I totally get that.

My first ever SCCA event was with my 2011 GT. I had long tubes, high flows, no resonators...and Borla ATAK mufflers. I wasn't aware of the sound restrictions. It was so loud that corner workers were covering their ears and people who were spectating nearly a city block's distance away were cringing when I launched. I got a fair and honest warning.

Good information, i've mostly done events with Chin, PCA/NASA in the SE - need to look up the limits with them but so far my Boss 302 / GT350 stock exhausts have cleared.

I was measured @ 97 dB at Laguna Seca when in sport mode. According to Google Maps, the microphone is about 60 feet from the edge of the track. Their limit is 90 dB, so I am way over.

Will be looking into ways to quiet the car down, but would ideally like a setting to keep the valves closed at all times, even if it means sacrificing a few HP.

I wish my Extremes had a close mode. My "close mode" is short shifting and going real easy on the throttle until they disappear.

Wow...that is really loud for a factory spec car. I wanted to delete my resonators so badly but that might not be an option anymore.

Below is the SCCA rule taken directly from the 2016 GCR. This is for road racing. Very few track day organizations actually monitor sound. It's usually left up to the tracks to monitor based on their local municipal requirements, which can vary greatly!!! I suggest you find out the track's limits before participating in an event. Here are the SCCA rules. I'll post the Solo limits if I can find them.....

"5.7.3. Standards
A sound level instrument (meter) that meets American National Standards
Institute (ANSI) S1.4-1983 Class 2 or better shall be used. The primary
maximum for SCCA Sound Control shall be a sound pressure level of
103dB “A” frequency weighted (dBA) measured on the fast response
setting at 50 feet (+/- 2 feet) from the edge of the track pavement, and/
or artificial markers indicating track edge. Other maximum levels may be
imposed at specific venues or events. These alternate levels shall be noted
in the Supplemental Regulations. All sound readings shall be truncated to
the lower whole number. (Anything after the decimal point is ignored.)"

Looks like the SCCA will follow the same 103db limit at National Solo events, but again, it may be lower depending on where the event is held. Seems like their standard is 103, whether for Club Racing or Solo.....
