i have heard of substandard oil causing pre-detonation on the tip in as the oil looses its friction barioir between the top and second ring. which causes the ring to catch and snap. its seems to happen at low rpm and when the engine is running on the DI fueling.

anyone look into di specific oils? like driven or is amsoil good for DI? currently im runing motocraft 5-50 but will move for a better option.

im curious as to the types of oils that owners run during the experienced failure? also what oils is everyone using on there whipple 18+ car with how many miles under there belts?

SN+ is the LSPI resistant oil. The new formulation of pennzoil euro 5w40 is SN+. Many others are also SN+ as well.

Well shit. I see they have 0-40 in the sn+ spec. My cars on the dyno waiting for two maybe three more pulls on 100octane think the 5-50 would be fine for that. I see it’s not SN rated its SM. Then I could change it out for the 0-40. Or should I do it. Before pay the extra charge to remove and restrap and change oil.

Whipple recommends using Motorcraft full synthetic in 5W50 which is what I put in my '19 Bullitt.
I am convinced that engine failures have more to do with the tune than anything else if the boost is under 11 psi.
When the engine went on my '15 with the Magnuson SC, it was making about 11 psi but the tune clearly caused the issue. Even after it was rebuilt I found out the engine went again and that's with forged internals and the same blower and psi.
And, yes, gas could be an issue. But even with E85 I've heard some is not actually 85% ethanol so what is that about?

I plan to use Redline 5w50 in mine after the Whipple goes on. It meets the Ford spec . Summit Racing stocks the gallon jugs that come out to $10.26 a quart.
