not worth the headache to convert, in my opinion.
I feel I would be better off buying a manual car and swapping all my aftermarket parts into it.

What makes you want to leave the 10r80? Besides the obvious fun of driving a manual

A 4L80E would be a better choice than a 700r4.
The 6r80 can easily be upgraded to handle the power he wants.
As far as the Quick 6 controller horror stories, they were mostly from the 1st gen units after they were first released. They have revised and upgraded them and from what I've read they really are a good trans controller now for the 6r80. If you go that route I would look for someone familiar with setting them up and tuning them to get it dialed in where you want. They also have an auto tune function that supposedly gets the normal day to day part throttle driving dialed in pretty good.

I always thought the 700/4L60 was based off the 350 and the 4L80 was based off the TH400
