Might it just be the thrust bearing you're hearing? Quite common on manuals, does the noise disappear when you dip the clutch?

manual transmission thud when shifting

How do your gearboxes sound and feel in 1st and 2nd gear?

I'm not sure if I'm being picky now because of the engine developing a knocking noise but the gearbox seems to whine like mad in 1st and 2nd gear and the gear change is.... unpleasant to say the least... clunky and the clutch is piss poor if I'm 100% honest

I'm just wonder how others have found theirs before I raise this with Ford?
hey wax daddy, go to the thread transmissions . there are 49,000 views on the post as above. seems to be a hit or miss situation with the chinese made getrag MT . most of the video reviews rave about the MT. i test drove one in seattle couple of months back and it was fantastic. no issues, thuds, etc. lots of advise there, changing the transmission fluid, bushings, etc. will take you all night to read it all. seem worse when cold. cheers and good luck, tom

I looked at these kinds of plates, but you end up spelling things like STIGMUS which sounds like some sort of fungal disease.
Nothing wrong with a ST16 plate - as long as that's your name (or nickname) that is :p

ST16 MUS sounds like a bizarre religious festival though!

LOL BYE X.

(LOl bYE X) to be slightly more acurate
Sorry chap, but that's tenuous at best!

I had

X
2 SLO

on my S197, but I'd say 99% of people would struggle to decipher your plate?

Have a look through older plates (X 2 SLO) was ÂŁ299 IIRC. Much cheaper and some good stuff still about for a Mustang.

WaxDaddy - they're not for everyone, but having one doesn't make you a knobhead as you so eloquently put it. A good plate on the right car generates a smile in most rather than vitriol in my experience.

How did this topic become a private number plate thread. Come on guys, the OP is asking about his gbox!

Back to the OP, mine does this as well and at first it concerned me about but now it does not seem as bad, I guess its just a bit of noise from the trust bearing. I also kind of like it, sounds racey!

Yes, driving smoothly between 1st and second is difficult but I am getting better. Sometime just pull away in second and others I just get rolling in 1st and then grab second straight away.

Just going to throw this out there but... private plates are for :censored: heads... lol
I'm glad you did, I've had to stop myself a few times for fear of starting a missive argument.

If you really want your car to say 'Mustang' on it or your name or some other significant legend, I'll cut you a nice vinyl graphic.

I can do this for about ÂŁ20, it will be spelt correctly and in the font/colour/ design of your choice!

Hopefully we can stay on topic....

It could be a noisy trust bearing but it's quite a lot of noise for a brand new thrust bearing to be making.

It's going in on Monday anyway so we will see what they say

I have the following transmission noise problem since I got the car. Listen to the scratching sound on shift between 1 and 2 and 0:05: [ame]
or here at 0:04: [ame]

Any chance yours is the same? For me this is how it started. Then it developed into constant scratching sound in 1st and 2nd above 4500rpm. Now after 15000km's 3rd and 4th does the same in high rpm's.

I have been to the dealers about 6 times since I bought it. First they told me this is normal. Second they told me it's not normal but they do not have another car to compare. Third time they invited some Ford Czech guy and he did not approve changing the transmission. Last week the car was there for a week and they said they fixed it. Unfortunately, the guy working on it did not drive it at all and fixed something else. Yep, not kidding. It is going there again next week. They will be "observing it".

I wish you do not have to go through this shit.

Just seems the way these days, BMW, Mercedes, Alfa, Ford. It seems the dealers are more and more clueless to diagnose issues, let alone fix them!

And the trouble is with warranty work, you have to give the dealer a chance to fix it, rather than take to a proper garage.

This is exactly how I feel! The dealer does not even have the proper tools to remove the transmission yet (as they've told me), so all they can do is basically "try and see" fixes. Even they admitted they do not really know what they are doing because the car is new to them.

Like I mentioned, at first they told me this is probably normal sound, but they are not sure because this is the first manual car they had to service. Few weeks later they admit this is a problem, but it will take weeks to figure out what it is and how to fix it.

They cannot change the transmission because Ford HQ will not approve that unless they identify the issue and they cannot identify the issue because they do not have tools to remove the transmission. :frusty:

If I took the car to any Mustang-specialist in the EU, it would probably be fixed in a few days...
