2018 turbo car here, running sai li return style system, radium billet fuel hat, dual walboro hellcat pumps. I have had electrical issues non stop with this setup from sai li, until I replaced it all myself with my own stuff. Battery all the way back. Doing so I’ve had to pull the pumps out multiple times. This is my third time replacing both. Every time I have noticed the socks are black, it doesn’t look like they are full but it’s definitely not white like they came new. Driver side of the fuel tank is clean. Does the passenger side of the saddle tank have anything non E85 rated I could be picking up?? I only ever notice black trash in the bottom of the bucket or on the socks.

to add and list a second issue. When I get to a quarter of a tank, the car will drop from 50 miles till empty, to 0 and the fuel gauge will drop to empty instantly. So I’m unsure if there is something wrong with the siphon and something is clogged up, I have no clue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You could put in a filter on the line and delete the socks perhaps.

Are the socks themselves E85 rated?

Are you filling up at the same station every time?
Are there visible contaminants in the bottom of the tank when you pull the pump hanger out?
Are you using any sort of fuel additive?

no contaminants on the driver side of the tank, I can’t see the passenger side given it’s a saddle tank. No fuel additives. And I always get E85 from the same company, not necessarily the same station but it’s always SPINX.

Perhaps this is your issue.

I have run E85 Exclusively in this MACH1 for 10k miles and did so for 4 years in my 2017 GT and never had the issue you are describing, so I don't think it is something in the car or tank breaking down.

Either water or some other contamination is likely getting into your tank.

Are there any other suppliers in your area that have E85 at the pump?

What material is the fuel lines you are using?

You may as well remove the sending unit from the passenger side and look down in there to confirm that nothing is in the tank on that side.

I’m using PTFE Braided line for my fuel lines. That’s the only supplier close yes. I will end up dropping the tank to check it out regardless.

Why would you drop the tank without looking first? I'm pretty sure there is access to both sides under the back seat. If not try using a borescope to see the other side. Dropping the tank in these is considerably more complicated than just unbolting a couple of straps. Like subframe removal more.

I’ve used the access on the driver side everytime, but many people have told me you can’t access the inside of the tank on the passenger side so I’ve never even tried. Those rubber grommets are a pain to get back in.

plus my car has no exhaust coming out of the back so I’d remove the driveshaft, remove the connections to the tank and drop it. Shouldn’t be too terrible.

Check the carbon canister. Boosted cars with a bad purge valve can push the carbon into the gas tank.

that was removed for weight, along with many other things. If that wasn’t removed correctly, think that’s my issue? Everyone I spoke to and asked about it said they just pulled theirs out.

If is removed there is no more carbon. Unless it broke and released the carbon particles into the tank before it was removed. The tank needs to be cleaned if you see particles in it.
