Good morning, I went out last night to have some fun with my brother and his tuned 335i. Before we met up I did a quick test run and got up to some speed I rather not mention. I applied the brakes and heard a pop noise and something scraping on the floor, I thought the tire had blew out but no vibration in the steering wheel.

I pulled the car over quickly and did a full walk around and notice nothin was wrong, it was really dark, so I used my flashlight on my cellphone and did another walk around. I check the front bumper and saw the splitter hanging off. I didn’t hit anything in the road so how the hell could this happen? I check the front splitter when I purchase the car because I’ve read so much horror stories about splitters installed incorrectly.

Anyway, luckily my brother Found one tie wrap in his car lol, so I tied it up and I was on my way back home. The tie wrap last about 5min and I was scraping again. I had to use a shoe lace to tie it up so I could get her home. I was so tired and annoyed when I got home, I didn’t even check the damages until this morning. I notice only one clip broke off the actual bumper, so that’s a good thing, could be worse. The splitter is destroyed. I know I have to order a new one. one more thing, I notice I was hearing some vibration from the trunk after all this happened. I check it this morning and came to realize the trunk lip came loose also. WTF! That’s a easy fix but, DAMN!

Here’s a few pics of the damages.

That sucks. Improperly installed splitters are common on these cars. Apparently they pop off at speed. Judging by the pics it doesn't look totally destroyed, I'd get new hardware and remount it.

I'm sure the dealer didn't install the splitter properly. They should be responsible for replacing it.

You should have eight screws holding that splitter on besides needing to be clipped in the front properly. I'm betting the dealer left four of the screws out when it was installed, usually the 4 in the front at 45 degrees. Same thing happened to me.

I agree w the others, improperly installed. Dealer should replace for no charge.
Due diligence is called for to ensure it’s installed correctly. See the sticky on it, watch the video.

I was anal about my install. Heck the dealer was going to give me the car and did not even think of installing it. Then when they went to do the install, I walk right back into the area and watched. Then I did a inspect. Needless to say I received a few glares...but lol um...I don't care ?? Yes, it may look like it was on right, but it probably was not.

Exactly what happened to me as well. Twice. And when the 4 screws at 45 degrees are left off the splitter will look ok at first and then it will slowly sag more and more. If the splitter is installed properly it will not move even if you hit something in the road.

and it looks like a broken tab on your lower bumper to boot. If it was improperly installed, they should be responsible for bumper replacement. That would be an expensive proposition.

This happened to me in my '16 track pack. The splitter was scraped and was replaced for free by the dealer. I had no broken tabs on my lower bumper by the way.

On my splitter they left a ton of hardware out. They should replace and if it was anything like mine its would be pretty easy to prove that it wasn't installed with all the hardware.

I watched the YouTube installation vide and no way this should’ve happened. This splitter has about 10-15 screws holding it in place

They will warranty it, after trying to say you must’ve hit something. I bet half the ones still on these cars don’t have all the hardware in em
