Hello All,
I've spoken to few guys already about the front speaker replacement. My question to all is what sound will I be getting from the stock mids and tweeter if I replaced the door with the jbl gto 628s? They are coaxial speakers and the factory door is a woofer.

Not much with the stock head unit, the only great sound you will get with just speakers is from an amp.

You will see little if any difference with the 628's. I'm not sure that the stock speakers might even sound better. Put 329's in the door and see a big difference in the midrange however. At least for me.

If you plan to disconnect your stock tweeters, then your soundstage will move lower in the car due to the fact that your mid and tweeter are both playing from low in the door. As Redcruzer also said, swapping speakers without doing anything else won't do very much IMO. I'd recommend a full component upgrade for the front with an amplifier.

If you're dead set on just swapping the speakers, go for a set with a very high sensitivity rating (93db and higher) to maximize the volume you'll be able to get out of your stock radio. If the sound is a little off, then try unhooking your stock tweeters because they won't pair very well with the aftermarket tweeters on the JBL's or whatever set you wind up purchasing.

@OP I'll just re-iterate what has been said in this and other threads... Your best bet is to replace the factory amp and speakers... kind of costly, but if you are even a little interested in accurate sound, it's the way to go.

If you replace the speakers, get either a two-way or three-way component set. The two-way will replace your lower door speakers and your tweeters, while the three-way would obviously include the upper door speaker.

I've seen so many comments on threads that a speaker-only upgrade does little to improve sound. And in some cases it has been reported that sound is worse with the upgrade. I guess this means that Ford put some thought into the package to deliver what they think is good sound.

If improved sound quality is desired, this seems to be the steps:
1. Have OEMradio reprogram the Ford unit to give a flat frequency output.
2. Tap into the speaker signals BEFORE the factory amp.
3. Replace factory amp for signals at least going to the front speakers.
4. Replace factory speakers (fronts at minimum) with good quality units.
5. Add or replace factory sub with one for the desired effect (SPL or SQ).

Putting some sort of EQ capability to tune the system is optional but can provide outstanding results.

I seem to remember reading some folks that replaced rear deck speakers wit GTO's and reporting some SQ increases.

There has only been a few reports on the center speaker replacement or disconnecting. I know back in my Focus ST days, a lot of folks disconnected the center speaker and had improved sound quality. Likely would be an increase in stereo separation at the expense of lowering the sound stage with removing the center. I'm going to try this out myself next week. I'm tired of the muddy sound, but don't have cash to spend on a nice system right now since I am temporarily off work with a disability.

If you have a Shaker or shaker pro, try JBL 329''S to replace the stock 3.5'speakers for muddy sound. This worked for me. Not perfect due to the amp but big difference in fill. Their only about $60.00 so can't really lose.

Thanks - I might give that a shot as well.

The rear deck speakers work well in the front doors if you dont want to buy anything. They produce better mid/high frequencies.
