front guard adjustment

can anyone tell me if when trying to get guard in further {about 3/16"} but only o back part near mirror
there is a small tab with a 8mm bolt there to get guard further in seems like the tab would have to be modded
any input appreciated cheers Dave

Looking from the angle you are showing, my car has a similar look. However, when I view straight down from above, the fender and A-post are quite parallel. So I believe it is an inherent design optical illusion.

the actual guard/fender is out making gap too big it needs to go in slightly 1/8 to 3/16

There is a small bolt hidden under the rubber piece just forward of the A-post as well. Not sure if that will help, but just wanted to be aware of it. I had to loosen/adjust it to get my vertical alignment when I installed my new hood.

Ah, ok, now that @MAGS1 pointed it out (thanks!) and there’s better pics I can see the area being discussed.

However, I can’t tell or don’t know exactly what you’re referring to as a “guard”? Can you circle it in one of the other or better images?

The only “guard” I can think of is on most vehicles there is a baffle that is in place between the end of the fender (closest to door) that is attached to the inside of the fender. This is an additional baffle or insulator piece that serves as a sound deadener and also a secondary splash shield to keep out water/moisture/road debris. It’s usually a large black vertical piece that covers the cavity from the A-pillar forward. Usually about 1/4” or 1/2” thick depending on vehicle build.

The other guard would be the inner wheel well splash shields. These are held in with plastic pins, which sometimes come loose. Turn the pin locks counter clockwise to tighten them all up in the front and rear wheel wells; there’s several to each shield.

Back to the gaps or panels.

The S550 had quite a bit of varying body alignment issues when it comes to the fenders, doors, urethane front and rear bumper covers, as well as the front hood and rear trunk lid.

This post I had put up from a while back outlines the S550 body panel spacing IF one wants to delve into trying to get the panels in better order.

Starting here, there are images and exact measures for all body panel gaps. There are also (2) pdfs that outline how to align the most common areas.

Even though the images and info is referencing 2015-2017, the same would apply to the 2018-2023’s.

Trying to tackle door to front fender gaps, or door to B-pillar gaps, or even fender to door gaps isn’t the easiest to do. It’s really trial and error even with the Ford info on how to do it. It could lead to further frustrations IF the alignment is even more skewed after trying to mess with it. It’s not to say a DIYer can’t do it, it’s just to say it’s not always a simple fix.

Many have attempted misc. alignment of body panels on their own with much success.

Just be careful when trying to do it with the area you’re looking at, because if adjustment is off the edge of the door to fender could touch/scrape and chip paint on either edge.

we call fenders guards {mudguards} the little 8mm bolt under the rubber ,which i peeled back to take crappy pics ,under that is the tab to bring the "fender" in the tab has to be modded
glad none of my old rods etc are not as thin and weak in bodies having stripped all down to body off chassis many times lol

Ah gotcha - understood now for guard reference. Yes, just check the link with the body alignment info. I think that will help you the best with dimensions and how to align.
