Newspaper front page photo of my toddler son and provisional pole sitter for Phoenix F1 race. LoL

Those were the days before all the elitism. I was a volunteer for the event and the following year toured the pits with my son before the day's first session. Nobody even freaked out when he laid hands on a 7-Up engine cover sitting next to the Jordan. He got to meet Senna and Berger but was too young to remember.

Must have had an effect though.

Him below (front row center) at the Red Bull F1 USA Driver Search (~400 top drivers from competitions across the US) to find the top 6 IIRC in the US to be considered for RB sponsorship in F1. He took pole for the first race. But had to start last in the final race because of an equipment failure in the prior round. Back half in each race (until the final) gets eliminated, but RB made an exception because of the equipment failure. Rossi won. I think that's Rossi behind my son with the helmet in his lap.

Hello; Not that it is the same sort of racing, but I started going the NASCAR races in the 1960's before i was old enough to drive legally. My friend's grandfather would take us to the races at Bristol.
This was back when the seats were rows of concrete. The banking was shallower. After the race we could walk down into the pits among the cars and drivers. My favorite was "fearless" Fred Lorenzen at the time. I met Wendel Scott.

Now NASCAR puts me in mind of wrestling in terms of hype. I quit attending after Dale senior died at Daytona.

Herbert: ‘Masi has done too much damage to F1’ (msn.com)

Hello; Looks like the punishment phase for Lewis not being champion is in full swing. I saw another article a few days ago about Lewis. What seemed to be the topic from that one is Lewis is so upset he may not race any more. My take which may be wrong is this smacks of using his popularity to get what he wants. Sort of if I don't get my way over the way the last race ended I will quit and you will be sorry.
Hope F1 does not cave to that sort of pressure.

I'm more interested in the new 18" wheel/tire specs, care less if Hammy races or not, lots of young talent out there in '22. Masi has to go though, very inconsistent on decisions.

The real issue is that under Masi F1 has been a disaster. Abu Dhabi was just the straw that will break the camels back. Of course Lewis is pissed, he has every right to be. There are many in the racing community that have spoken out and said that the rulings in Abu Dhabi were wrong and even broke precedence.

Lewis has nothing left to prove. For him to go out there week after week and risk his life and not have full confidence in the FIA & F1 is certainly understandable. At the end of the day Masi has made more than enough mistakes in his short tenure to be removed from his position.

If Hamilton doesn’t come back then I suggest that Vettel takes his spot and get another up and coming driver for Aston.

Hello; Had enough of Hamilton myself for sure. Vettel might be a better fit than he was at Ferrari.

Well I’m a Hamilton fan and I want him to continue racing but I can understand how he feels since he pretty much led the race and have the victory snatched away because rules weren’t followed accordingly.

Like, I have the most seniority at my work and vacation is approved by seniority. So if myself and someone else book the same time off, that person gets approved and I don’t then that’s not following the rules.

People are saying today of Hamilton what they used to say about Schumacher. It goes with the territory of being a winner. Honestly I did not care for Seb in his RB days but know I really like him. That said I agree with @trackd in that there is new fresh talent available if MB is willing to take a chance. Seb is doing well at AM and should stay there.

But the bottom line is $$$ and Lewis brings in more of them than Masi. I think Michael is done.

Agreed. As I said in the past I have no issue with Max, Horner, or RB. None of them did anything wrong. I congratulate all of them for an incredible season.

Hello; Thing is Hamilton and crew were just fine when during the other races the actions of track officials made things work out good for him. Now a big stink when things did not work out. I watched the race. Late in the race there was a wreck. Cars got bunched up. Max took on new tires, Hamilton did not. Hamilton could have taken new tires but picked track position. The race was finished under green racing conditions which is how races ought to be done. Max passed Hamilton on the track under racing conditions. I saw it happen.

Mercedes can put a number of drivers in that car and have good results as long as the car remains superior. I would like to see Alonzo in a good car again.

Well that sentence says is all. Any racer will tell you that it the way it "should" be but it just doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes a race ends under yellow or red. That's racing. But Masi forced the issue of satisfying the needs of the public, and the owners. In doing so he manipulated the ending ignoring the needs of the teams, their sponsors and the drivers.

By the way you mentioned you're a NASCAR fan. They are the master manipulators of the rules and even they figured out a way to go green that was fair to all cars by allowing pit stops.

Bottom line is there is no defense in what F1 did and hopefully the FIA will see the damage that has been done and begin to repair it.

Hello; I soured on Schumacher for two reasons. One was stopping on the track during the end of a qualifying session to keep pole.

The other was a race at Indy in the USA. His opposition was on a different make of tire and the tires they brought were failing at the Indy track. They asked for permission to fly in some replacement tires, but Schumacher's team objected citing some obscure rule. All the competitive teams withdrew from the race for safety reasons. Schumacher coasted to a "win" in his Ferrari. There was no real race.

Hello; So, racing is not for the fans and the owners is your stance? Being a fan i do not buy this.

I was a NASCAR fan from the early 1960's until some years ago. I quit watching a few years ago. F1 is heading the same way. If they do not need fans to watch the races, so be it. I can find something else to do with my time. I use to watch every minute of pre-race day stuff that was televised. Now I record the race and just do that out of decades of habit.
NASCAR got along without me in the seats at the tracks. Thing is the last few years tickets can be had for a reasonable price again. Fewer if any sellouts. I recall when to get tickets you had to keep buying them every year and had to buy tickets to the lesser GN races on top of that. My brother bought tickets to the Bristol spring races and I bought for the summer races for years. We took each other. Finally got too expensive and the racing was too much changed so I quit going.

There is plenty of defense for what happened at the last race. I saw no problem with a decision to finish the race as a race. Even though i do not attend nor much watch NASCAR anymore, I do like a couple of things that are doing. They try to finish under green. Even there some drivers pick track position over new tires. Sometimes it works and sometimes they get passed and lose.

We have a deserving world champion who won by passing his chief rival on the track. This sore loser business is wearing thin. But if they decide to cater to a sore loser and do something dumb, I will be finding something else to do on Sundays.

I quit the NFL a few years ago over disrespect for my flag and I had been a Loyall fan since I was a young boy. Not sure if I started watching in the 1950's but in the 60's for sure. The NFL is doing fine without me so i expect F1 will be just fine.

But the biggest point about the race were why only the cars between Hamilton and Verstappen allowed to lap the safety car. Why not the rest of the lapped cars. There was plenty of time for the rest of the field to pass the safety car and still get a lap in under green flags.
