Per a recent CarBuzz article (linked below), Ford is testing future tech that will slow certain vehicles down in certain speed limit zones. It appears this is being tested on Ford's E-Transit vehicles now, but it's anyones guess if this will be implemented across other products.

Ford's New Tech Will FORCE Cars To Slow Down https://carbuzz.com/news/fords-new-tech-will-force-cars-to-slow-down

IMO, future PCM/BCM's will be further locked down and tools like Forscan may not be able to do As Built changes. Not saying it won't be impossible, but it's going to be harder to do "mods".

This is where you will start to see consumers stand up for themselves. Eventually, this kind of stuff becomes too much.

That being said, I see this as being an excellent law enforcement tool;

Drink and Drive? Blow into this
Speeding tickets with X number of points? This gets installed in your car whether you like it or not

Punishing consumers as a whole is a bad idea for long-term revenue and brand loyalty however punishing people who offend excessively is warranted as it protects those of us who don't.

Drinking and driving is one thing, and no sane person has any tolerance for it.

But if a GT or any other performance car could never exceed the speed limit why would anyone ever own one? There’s a time and place where a capable owner can judiciously get on his car safely.

Not sure if you misunderstood or just didn't read the whole thing past the word speeding ;)

Speeding tickets with points means that you've been caught speeding on public roadways an (insert arbitrary number here) number of times and have collected points totaling (insert another arbitrary number here).

Yeah, I feel like we still have gentleman's rules for sports cars. Everyone, including your insurance company, knows you might use the car as intended sometimes. Don't get caught and there's no problem. If that ever changed, there wouldn't be much point to owning one.

Well, they already have the breathalyzer thing for cars if you drink and drive. I can totally see them doing the same with speeding enforcement. It's just a matter of time.

In Canada; f you get caught "stunt driving", under the Highway Traffic Act, your car can be imounded. Court dates, blah blah blah. That's an RCH away from speed governors.

I am good with law enforce, aka penalties for an infraction, but prevention like that is a bit "Minority Report". I'll just never buy a new car...

Eventually, only self driving cars will be allowed on public roads. If you are lucky, certain cars my have a track/off road mode, which will use GPS to verify that you are not on a public road. Then you will be allowed to drive it yourself. Fortunately, I'll be dead long before this becomes reality ;)

I doubt they will come from the factory. I imagine a little box that is installed or a software patch.

But some of the stuff i hear that Tesla is capable of who knows. Like I saw a TikTok (mega grains of salt here) where a Tesla drove itself back to the dealership because the owner had missed payments.

Don't miss payments??

So what happens when the Tesla is driving itself back to the dealer and it runs over a pedestrian?

What happens when the self repossesing Tesla decides to turn itself into a rolling BBQ?
