Anyone flash this tune without being on a battery tender? Says it takes a good 10 minutes for the flash. My battery is fairly healthy, but do not want to risk anything. Thanks!

Yeah I'll take it out for a good drive before I start. Do you remember what voltage you were at?

I would say, it depends on the battery age. If the battery is fairly new and the car has been driven for a good bit of time, then it would be safe to do so. But why risk bricking your PCM? A battery tender is cheap insurance.

Car said 12.8 after I was done, so probably around 13. I have an AGM though. I wouldn't try at anything less than 12.5.

And as he said, turn off radio and auto lights and unplug anything that may use power.

Thank you. Any recommendations on a decent tender?

also, not rally related to programming on the battery, but always wondered what would happen if someone calls you at the time and ford sync engages.

it is probably best to turn off your phone.

Would either of these do the trick? Im only ever going to use it for this and then sit in a drawer. Anything under $20?

Both are better than nothing, I'd pick the second one. Ideally you want at least 5 amps since from what I've seen the car uses 5-7 ish when you're sitting there with the Ignition on. Probably less when flashing though.

I wound up getting a 5a and will attempt this weekend. Dumb question, and I'm hearing mixed answers, I've always connected to the positive and negative on the battery terminals, it should I be connecting to a different ground?

If you connect to a chassis ground the car will know you're charging. But I've always just used the direct to battery method in this case. The less the car knows when it's flashing, the better. Plus the goal here is just to keep the battery from dying, not charge it correctly.

If you're using the tender normally then yes, connect it the correct way. Although even then in my case the car stopped tracking it after a few weeks anyway when I had it connected correctly, lol.
