I've seen a lot of debate on what the best type of supercharger is but no one seems to be talking much about turbos on the 5.0 or how much boost is too much boost when we are talking about a car that is driven for hours at a time everyday in city traffic, so I figured I'd start this thread to see what advice you forced induction guys can give to us N/A guys that are looking to get into the game. So, what is the best type of forced induction for the street and what's a good boost pressure for power and longevity on a daily driver?

Very interested in the responses to this thread as well. Current plan is to keep car NA but still considering options.

The car isn't my DD. Well, my DD really isn't my DD either, since I work overseas, but i plan on taking this car on long trips, so drivability supersedes power. I'm leaning towards twins, mainly for the fact that they're mostly inert while cruising, and only come online when load is applied. That being said, the complexity of turbo systems drives up the price and required maintenance.

Best type is open for argument. Depends on what you want

The coyote should live at 550-600 whp with a good tune forever. I had a 585 whp 11 daily driver with tvs for 3 years, 30k miles without a single problem. Except traction. That was my only problem.

I've had trouble finding anyone that expects the motor to live more than 30k or 40k miles making around 600rwhp. YMMV.

for DD it's pretty pointless when the car already have 435hp. you can save a lot of money by just doing boltons if you really want more power...yes supercharger is badass looking under the hood and sounds cool...but legally you'll never use it if you do the right thing and obey speed limits.

doesn't mean I don't want one... I want one bad and I want to install it but right now I just don't see the point.

I don't understand why people keep mentioning 30-40k as being a lot of miles. I can hit that in a year and a half to two years. That's not much longevity out of a motor. Certainly doesn't qualify as forever.

I expect well over 100-150k...on the engine itself for my vehicles. With obvious high mileage maintenance on accessories. That is what consider to be reliable and have longevity. If you really can't expect more than 40k from a FI 600whp motor. I might as well stick with NA mods, as in the long run its cheaper than buying a new block with the added cost of FI

You could make the same statement about any modern car, as they will all go way beyond any speed limits in North America.

I'm of the adage it is not how fast you can go, but how quickly you can get to the speed limit (or a little beyond in some cases...).

Turbo's are not as "bolt on" as a blower is.

No such thing as too much boost when you are just toodle-ing around. You're not in the boost. So there is no boost.

There is no best. The OEM's seem to think it's a PD blower though. Do you see many centri blown OEM cars?

and what's a good boost pressure for power and longevity on a daily driver?
Those are opposing goals.^^^^^^

Opposing or not there is a balance between the two. Whichever FI doesn't build boost unless you want to, will be the most reliable. So, turbo or whatever blower doesn't always have boost

As for oem uses, it's simpler and cheaper to use a blower. More room for profits

All of them don't always make boost. You could drive them forever and never make 1 psi if you want too.

You can't go wrong with forced induction on a coyote. Really wakes them up and we can tune the car to be conservative yet last along time.

The built in widebands really help, you would be amazed at the difference in fuel quality from station to station
