2016 Mustang GT Murdered out
Tried to search could not find the answer. Installing a TT kit in my 2016 Mustang GT. Should I have it towed to the shop for the tune or can I drive the car to the shop on the stock tune and not do damage to the engine? The one kit I am leaning towards is a 45 min drive from the house with no traffic. Install price is not too bad it's about 1K to install and tune is 400. Going to be going for 600 to 700 hp to start.

Trying to save 1K if I can but if not that is not the end of the world.

Tow it. Do not drive it on the stock tune. What kit and install shop by the way? $1K install price for TT is cheap!

It's a buddies shop so I am getting a bit of a discount. Think he normally charges 1500 to 2k and tunes are 500+.

why would driving it out of boost be an issue? your not changing the pressure or vacuum characteristics if you drive normal unless it's such a small turbo that it builds pressure abnormally early.

Just questioning this because I built my own setup on my last car and did just that, drove it un-tuned for a week (out of boost) and then got it tuned on the weekend, car was fine.

don't want to risk anyone's engine just curious what the reason is

Are you not changing fuel injectors with the addition of the turbos ? That would be one of the many reasons you shouldn't drive the car after those kinds of changes.

If your tuner is experienced with your platform they should be able to give you a base tune to drive on. If they can't I would find a different tuner.

Is it possible to disconnect the charge pipe from the intercooler? If not the charge pipe, how accessible is the blow off valve?

If so, just disconnect it and run the the car N/A with the turbos just bleeding boost to atmosphere.

With the bigger injectors it'll still run like crap if even runs at all.

assuming your maf sensor is going to be in a different position plus a change in pipe diameter and air flow, that will cause issues in it self.

If you left the stock injectors and stock intake in place you wouldn't have issues getting it there. You would just need to connect your upper intercooler pipe, vac lines etc... once you get there. having all the rest installed wouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't risk having any chance of boost hitting that motor prior to tuning; 45 minute drive is a long one to stay our of it.

sorry wasn't thinking about injectors being changed because on my last car they could handle 4-5psi of boost on stock injectors, until i changed them out.

Yes if you swap injectors at the shop you should be fine, however what I'm getting at is if you mount the MAF the same distance from the throttle body how could that change the way the car drives?

Once while flooring it in my last vehicle I had a silicone coupler blow off and the car was not getting into boost obviously...but since my MAF was blow-through and still sealed up to the TB, it ran fine, just really really low on power, as if it was stock, lol

I'm also planning to go boost at the end of this year but was planning on using HP tuners, that was you can just do an across the board adjustment for the new injector size and then go get it fine tuned at a shop, all while staying out of boost.
