Hello Everyone,

Has anyone had foam block or partially block their VIN on their windshield? I just noticed this while washing my car today and I am not sure how this happened or if there is a way to move the foam out of the way...

That is a Ford Issue and they will fix it. Contact your regional factory rep. The Dealership will probably contact the rep for you.

Great, I'll contact the Dealership closest to my house tomorrow and I'll see how it goes. Thank you!

Dash will probably need to come out for that fix, because even with the gauge cluster removed, I don' t think there's a way to get to that area.

I’ll make sure to ask the Dealership how this would be fixed if they know. If they have to pull out the whole dash...I might just leave it as is.

I had the same thing. Get a thin wire and bend to shape, carefully tuck it back in.

Actually good idea ^^^^.

Even if you have a “pick” tool that has a 90* bent end should work - using the angled end, get it so you can pull the foam inward into and back under the dash.

It may work to clear it from blocking the VIN, but it’s also possible that foam may migrate out again.

Only the glass will need to be removed, the piece you are seeing in called a Foam Dam Trim and is glued to the underside of the windshield and compresses down to meet the dash when the glass is installed.
it is there merely to hide the edge-on view of the windshield urethane.
if you use a long hook tool (about 9" or so) you can pull the dam back just a little and will not hurt anything.
I would leave it alone after that, as it will not migrate out, it is glued the entire length.

(I am a glass installer btw)

Agreed, Harbor Freight has some small plastic body panel tools. They may work better than a wire (if you can get a good angle on it).

There's no way in hell I'd pull the wind shield just to fix that. The VIN's on the door placard. If a cop complains, have them look at the placard (or call Ford).

I agree, I would not cut out a windshield just to fix the Foam Dam. (I should have said "would have to...remove the glass" referencing to not removing the dash)
Hence why I mentioned the hook tool and leave well enough alone...

Yes, this worked for me. I had a spool of 20 gauge steel wIre. I cut about a 10” piece, and made a small hook on one end, then slid it in there and rotated to pull the foam back up. Took a few tries to get the foam pulled up evenly.
