Power is back on. 3 days of living on Gilligan's island for most. I ran a generator, back fed panel ran a 2 ton mini split. So it was as civil as could be.

I was suppose to go down to Marathon today for a 4 day lobster trip. Looks really bad from Islamorada down to key west. They are not even letting locals back yet. I would say a no go for November. We just got power back today here in Stuart, which is about 1 hour north of Palm Beach. Even if they open to tourism by November, it will not be pretty.

I've been watching CNN for live coverage. Key West is fucked bro. Further south the worse it got. I would reschedule for somewhere else.

I received the tow hook the day before the hurricane. Anyone who has installed a tow hook knows that the splitter has to come off and then the belly pan. After my 4 day trip, I have a week off. Tow hook, oil change, and splitter next week.

Damn. I knew I should have waited to bolt on the splitter! What kind of tow hook?

Hopefully life if FLorida gets back to normal for all you guys asap. I know it's a mess. And even if it looks ok, and the roof is still on, you better get a moisture meter to make sure your walls aren't full of water. My wife and I had a trip planned so we bailed out of the country.

ZL1 addons titanium GT350 tow hook. I also picked up rock guards and splitter washers.

As for hurricane damage, we had a chimney cap take a 3 block frisbee ride, a leaky window, significant erosion, and some minimal water intrusion. A few outdoor light fixtures were broken in half by the wind. I figure a couple thousand in damages give or take...... all out of pocket.

It could have been a lot worse.

My generator crapped out after two hours, it was the capacitor, bought in 2000 so the dry ceramic cap lost it, typical in florida. Ordered an oil filled to replace it. Ran 3000 watt inverter of my F350 7.3l set idle to 1200rpm. I have inverter mounted on the grill guard so its gets lots air flow over it.

For those with generators over 5k heat kills them, a contractor friend that really abuses his and has gone through many recommends keep a box fan next to them. The alternator part gets so hot they burn your hand and it cooks the windings and motors cooling system doesn't move enough air. Also not much oil in the motor so he changes his ever 30/35 hour run time again due heat. The duty cycle for continuous use is usually only 35% of rated output again heat.
I've got mine on blocks with oil pan under it, got a 12 gallon boat tank with the primer ball feed hose so tank is not over the unit that way I can refill while running. Keep fuel tank elevated, the fuel pump won't draw well with long hose it. Why did I all this a previous storm left me without power for two weeks. Also keep two 55 drums to draw from, cause as we saw this time gas gets scarce. Left over fuel just ends up in cars, I put some oil in drums to keep them from rusting, then rinse them before use.. The EPA hates me.
